  • Kirin strategy - how do you kill him?

My LS has fought all of the four Tulia gods so far, and we're considering to try our luck with Kirin. However, I'm not exactly sure what the strategy is for killing him. I've heard different things from many people - some sound plausible, others sound strange, and some don't make sense at all. I was wondering if if anyone can tell me any information regarding how to take out Kirin.

What seems to make the most sense to me (and from what I've heard), is that you should have at least two full alliances. One sticks to Kirin to bring down his HP a liittle, while the other waits for Kirin to summon 1 of the 4 gods. When this happens, the 2nd alliance fighting the summoned god calls for help, and then everyone starts fighting that. But then what happens to Kirin? Do you kite him around? And if so, how is that possible... isn't he super fast? I know BLMs are really the key to these battles, but I just don't understand how you can fight the gods and Kirin at the same time. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Run around for a few hours until he stops casting Stonega 4 and Stone 5 then fight him like a normal HNM. Fun...

Firstly you need to (like everyone else said) kite Kirin around. Firstly do whatever you can to kill the summon as quick as possible before Kirin summons the next one. No matter how many times you have beaten Kirin, if you do not kill his summons, I think its basically impossible to win. The thought of killing him should come after you have defeated his summons.

Kirin moves pretty quick but what you need here is bind, shadowbind (rng), gravity and etc... Yes Ninjas are good to use for making Kirin run around while Paladins tank his summons.

18 people can kill Kirin, but there is no reason not to bring more. I'm sure everyone wants to have the experience of defeating him ^^

I need some specific information here. Is binding Kirin usually successful? I would assume it would get resisted a lot. And gravity after awhile would surely get resisted the more you use it? Also, I heard from someone that the gods that Kirin summons are not their full strength versions; rather they are tweaked down a little bit -- is that true? And lastly, once all the four gods are killed, do you kite Kirin around while BLMs nuke it, or can melee do some decent damage too? Can a NIN blink tank Kirin? Thanks for the info so far!^^

              The fight has several phases:

Phase 1: Ninjas and WAR/NIN will provoke kirin and kite all around the room. nobody even thinks of attacking or dealing damage.

Phase 2: Kirin summons a God. Outer Party claims and calls for help. Main tanks (only need 2-4) continue to kite Kirin while everyone else kills the gods. The summoned gods are much weaker than the real ones you fought to get the seals. They do use 2 Hours though.

Phase 3: After all 4 gods have been killed, main alliance removes healers and adds BLM + RNG to deal damage. BLM constantly swap in/out of party when they have MP. All other members (Healers, etc) form outside alliances and keep people alive. Tanks continue to kite Kirin while BLM and RNG deal damage. MNK boost outside of alliance, and then get invited to release Chi Blast.

Shadowbind is guaranteed hit, and usually binds for over 30 seconds. They key to shadowbind is to announce you are using it so nobody attacks Kirin. If a monster takes ANY damage (including poison damage) after being shadowbound, they will unbind.

Our Linkshell has sucessfully killed Kirin with as little as 18 people (I think it was 18, maybe a little bit more), but for a first attempt you'd probably want at least 2 full alliances.

Usually the only problems are when he sucessfully casts Stonega IV (usually on a RNG who takes hate), and when he uses Astral Flow. Other than that it's just a massive Free-for-all with RNG, NIN, BLM, and WAR/NIN all fighting for hate and dragging Kirin all around the room.

Wow, this is the most informative thread about Kirin I've been looking for for awhile. Thanks a lot for the response guys.
I still have a question about Kirin fight we'll be attempting soon. What jobs and how many do we need to comfortably kite kirin (phase 1 in Faranim's post) ?

Our LS does essentially what Faranim said.. though we don't really CFH anymore since it's not needed.. nice seeing EXP chains on lesser gods.. lol. For the first phase, we have 2 NIN, RDM, WHM, THF, maybe a BRD to kite him around, with 1-2 additional NINs waiting on the outside incase the first 2 die. We've done a 28 minute Kirin with 23 people before going with this strategy..

There's 2 way to kill it.

-First is Safe classic way which can be done by an allience.
Always use Half of the room for kiting Kirin and other half for their Pet.
                      NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN, PLD/NIN, PLD/WAR, and RNG/NIN can be kiters.
Main Allience set up is usually, Kiter/Melee pt, RNG pt, and Manaburn pt.

2 kiters and a healer usually kites kirin till he summons all 4 pets.
rest focus on Pets around Teleport area.

Then when all pets are dead, Tanks disband from main allience and replace them with another dmg dealers.

Kirin "can" be stunned but it's like 1% chance of stunning him so can't relay on stun. So Run when casting stonega IV.

if Kirin is casting Stone V and Quake, Melees can set up quick Light renkei for some nice dmg + MB.

Baraera <== helps tons and will save RNG's life.

It's basically Rngs fight. Rngs shoot till they get hate and run till other rng steals hate.

He has Insane HP regen(not as crazy as wyrms) so constant dmg is must. I parsered every Kirin fight with no filters, I think his Average HP is about 80k~90k +/- with how fast you kill (Longer it takes you to kill, higher HP it'll be due to HP regen)

Takes about 30~ min to kill with this way. (usually depends on how many RNGs shows up, how fast Kirin pops his pet)

-Another way is, if you have 2 alliences or more, you can try to go all out on Kirin asap.
Main Allience set up will be RNGs, BLMs, and RNGs. out side allience will be Tank, healers, Melee etc etc.

as soon as Kirin pops, all RNGs use barrage, sidewinder, EES, BLMs use ES aeroga III Manafont Spam Aeroga III/ Aero IV, can bring kirin down to 75% or so within minutes.

Basically Go all out on Kirin, let 2nd allience worry about Pets.

can usually take Kirin out b4 he summons all 4 pets. (usually 2~3 pets summoned b4 he dies) takes about 15~18 min depends on how many RNGs and how many died on his Astral Flow.

Fastest we Killed Kirin was 13 min and 58 sec w/ only 2 pets summoned and Titan Astral Flow which did 300~ dmg to most ppl.
(but we had 39 people so it wasn't that impressive)

thats an interesting tactic to try and kill him before he summons all the pets. we've always used the tactics as faranim outlined.

theres not much to add to what ppl have posted, i'll say that every SMN you have shaves around 10 min from the kill time, Lv70 bloodpacts really hurt Kirin.

Should note that it is not possible to blinktank Kirin unless you use the "old school" method of running him out of MP/Aspiring him down to 0 method mentioned at the top of this thread. Stonega IV deals up to 1700+ damage. No WAR/NIN or NIN/WAR can survive that, and given Kirin's resistance to Stun, it makes blinktanking a very poor option unless Kirin is unable to cast spells any longer.

Never managed to actually see Kirin run out of MP..... I seem to remember my LS attempting that on our first attempt ever, after 3 hours he still had mp..................................

Easier just to send 3-5 Rangers after him..........dies fast

Think ive seen a 22 minute kill with 20~ people before.

He can run out of MP, or maybe stops casting it.

Faranim's way is usually easier as rangers, etc in extreme range, can out run stonega 5 pretty easily.

As long as you know what you're doing, a few ranger deaths isn't that important if they don't let the main alliance get hit with ga.

Smn's if you got a stash of them is a little tricky to pull off bp's this way, but since they have essentially no hate, telling tanks to stop for 3 seconds, or do it when kirin turns around is easy enough.
