tell them that you have a level 75 char and you are rank 10 in the other 2 nations and just changed your nationality to bastok to do the bastok missions for fun but you haven't started them yet. lol that will throw them for a loop.

many people do that - i will when i do 9-1 and 9-2. try

/sea rank 1 70< now and then and you'll see some level 70+ that are rank 1

I'm sorry to tell you that ArticZero, but it's the truth. You don't even read the instruction booklet to learn that. Since they have the mentor system now, any player that choose to be a mentor should be able to tell you that simple fact. Yes this is a game it is an RPG and RPGs are founded on the missions and quests, not solely runing around and killing mindlessly without any plan to do any missions or quests. It's totally up to you to if you don't want to do the quest and get a free airship pass you can always pay the 500,000 gil (Just that seems like a waste to me).

The even more eye awakening truth, doing the missions and quests when you are able to does not make you an elites. It really just means you've spent the needed time learning your way around and where the npc are. The added effect of the signia's lasting longer with each rank is a bonus that is considered a lot when picking a party member.

Rank mattered to me just so I can get the airship pass, and since I have gotten Rank 5, the airpass has helped me tons.

Rank makes a huge difference later on in the game. I can promise you if your rank is low by 55+ your pt invites get cut drastically. A prime example of this was the other day when a pt member had to leave we were looking for a replacement there was 3 members our level seeking one was rank 7, 9, 3 but the rank 3 was laughed at when pt leader asked if he switched nations he said no he just didn't have much intrest in it. We had grabbed the 7 cause the 9 was seeking mission 9-1, 9-2.

Rank plays another huge part because rank 6 allows you to start zilart missions and only through completing zilart missions grants you access to Ru'ann gardens which is a very important place at the end game.
I'm not trying to replace you thieves, I'm just trying to stay alive

This is part of the reason why on the Fairy server the Kolshushu (ms) Region can't be held for more then a week from a nation. Weather you have a signia or not your death means more points to the beastmen, so if you are able to sustain a signia longer then even if you die the kills you make afterwards will makeup for it to keep the Region under a nation's control.

That is why a player at rank 1 and lv. 11 who should be able to get rank 2 is looked down on.
You've got to be kidding me if you think people consider signa when looking at rank :spin:. Also I'm surprised that no one owns Kolshushu, since Onzozo has been packed to the brim lately (Lightning Bow's price dropped from 150k to 30k. . .). I think we'll be seeing Kolshushu getting owned more often now.

And I believe in using rank is a good indicator. While partying at Garlaige we had a rank 2 Paladin level 50. Firstly he went afk no notice and after 20-30 minutes we're like "Ok he's probably not coming back, let's leave him somewhere safe" cause some members wanted to go. You'd think by level 50 he would at least have the dem gate crystal (we were considering altep first, hmm)

Majority (not saying all) of times, rank is a very good reflection of the person behind the character. You're post just helped proved that... sorry to say.

                  Rank does mean something.
I can somewhat tell if such person will use their food, have all updated equips, use provoke, have WS macros for renkei, and so on by just looking at their Rank.
Cuz if you got rank 5, you ve been through most of basic game stuffs. But then ive met so many newbie rank 5s...
Anyway, I tend to invite JP first, and then fill up open spots with NA and in the order of rank if i have to. I'm sorry, so far it turned out that JP parties are "generally" so much faster for exp grinding than NA parties are. I hope someday this changes, but for now, there are so many newbie NAs and I'm sick of em.

You say you don't have a lot of time to do the Missions in order to gain Rank, but other people don't have time for partying w/ bad players who don't know how to work w/ a group and will slow down their EXP. Rank can be thought of as a kind of insurance. Car insurance sees it as: The higher the age (to a certain point), the safer (more mature) the driver. Maybe the 16 year-old that just got their license will never be in an accident, but the insurance company will still charge them more, regardless. In a PT if a person is level 15 or higher and is still rank one, it brings the question of, "Why?" Maybe the Rank 1 player (16 year old driver) will be really good, but the PT (insurance campany) is still gonna be wary (charge higher rate) because they know a Rank 5 player (mature adult) probably has some experience and knows what their role is. Maybe the Rank 1 player is good... maybe he's not. Chances are the Rank 5 player is.

Plus, it is annoying in a PT when someone wants to stop the EXPing so they can go get their signet. If you are Rank 1, your signet is going to wear off 2 hours quicker the the Rank 3 in your group. (Dependent on the Rank of the nation they are from, of course)

Plus, more importantly than all of those things is the fact that the Missions can get really fun later on. I am only 25, and I hit rank 3 at level 20, but that was a very fun point in the game. A LOT of story is revealed through the Missions and add a different realm to the game. Grinding gets boring... often for me. So I enjoy the break from the grind to hit a few story points. Learning about the Shadow Lord and fighting dragons, and meeting the special characters from each nation brings a sense of adventure or something you don't get from grinding. Bringing down the dread dragon was extremely fun (even though I got cursed and died) and I would do it again if I had the opportunity. I am always looking for people trying to do 2-3 and will gladly join them.

I made the majority of my xp parties and I do look at rank (amongst other things) when choosing members. If I had to choose between a lvl14war/7mnk rank1 and a lvl14war/7mnk rank9 there would be no contest who I would pick. I'm only rank5 at the moment, but when I go back to the Dunes to level a different job , I make sure that all my equipment/foods are the best for what I have at that level and I usually bring armor/spells for the following levels as well. I've noticed that this holds more often with higher rank people as well. I hope you don't think I'm bragging, this is simply what I've observed. This doesn't mean that all rank5's are better than rank1's or rank2's. There's just a positive correlation between better players/equipment/skills with higher rank. To get your party invite rate up, I'd suggest that you do the missions when you can, and most importantly, have your search comment filled with info about you and your most important traits (your tnl, gear, etc.).

After Rank 6, rank 7-10 is just for show.

Personally if I'm leveling a low job and see a rank 5-10 I would rather invite him then a rank 1 because it shows he has some higher jobs and most likely is a lot more skilled and will have better equipment. This is a generalization but is mostly true.

If you are mid to high level with low rank, that means you are either:

                            A) Inexperienced (i.e. not much /playtime under your belt)
                            B) Too lazy to do missions
                            C) Both.

If you want to get more invites and more respect, you should raise your Rank and prove that you are neither a n00b nor a lazy shit. Plus the access to the airship / Zilart missions / Dynamis is an added bonus.

I think everyone in the game who DOESN'T walk around talking to every NPC can play however the hell they want. Just that I don't want them in my party, and if their Rank is 1 I won't invite on principle (seriously, every Rank 1 I partied with past level 15 has been a total embarassment). It's SO easy to get Rank 2 and 3 that there's no excuse. I can understand how people take ages to make the leap to Rank 4 (it actually requires some organization and skill) but 2 and 3 are cakewalks.

I'd suggest you get your ranks as quickly as you can do the missions. It opens up extra conquest equipment for cheap (just spend CPs) and you get a nice little payoff for every Rank you make. Also, it's a LOT more fun doing Rank missions than it is killing the same mob type over and over and then waiting for dead people, AFKers all the time like you do in exp parties.

I see many of posts here are about people lvl 20+ or people with sub jobs.. My beef is with people that judge my character by my rank at lvl 11.

I mean it seems people don't have any dam manors or heart in this game. If I see someone doing something wrong or they ask a question.. I answer it or try to help them out. I don't jump on them cause they are a noob and doin't know shit about the game.

I have played many mmorpgs,, EQ, EQoA, SWG, PSO
and have never played with such a rude community.

I love to game.. and love ffxi.. but dam man people need to have a freakin heart and maybe try to help someone instead of stepping on them.

Cause I didn't know all this stuff about rank.. and no one bothered to ask or say anything just insult me for not being uber like they where.
