Which city is the Hume best in? I'm thinking Bastok. Also, the different things you can do like fishing and cooking, is there a certain one that the Hume is best at? THANKS!

If you choose the nation whose native race is the same as your character you get a very nice stat bonus ring at the start of the game.
Bastok:
Hume
Galka
SanD:
Elvaan
Windhurst:
Mithra
Taru
So if you choose hume and then choose Bastok, you will begin the game with a Bastokan Ring that gives +3 HP +1 VIT and +1 DEX. You will not get this ring or any ring if you choose Hume and go with either Windhurst or SanD.
No race is better than any other at one craft or another, however if you want to start crafting as soon as you start playing in level 1 then nation selection is very important, as no nation has all the guilds.
Bastok is the place to be for Smithing, Goldsmithing and Alchemy.
If you want to start right off with carpentry or tanning then SanD is the nation for you(SanD also has a Blacksmith but Bastok is much better due to the ore market and proximity to mines).
If Boneworking, Cooking, Fishing, or Weaving is what you want then choose windhurst.
Once you pick up 10-15 levels you will be able to travel to Mhaura and Selbina(both are connected by ship) but there is no Auction house in these locations so the guilds there are used much less.
My advice is to choose Bastok. The ring you get is nice for the early levels, and once you get to lv20 travelling between the nations isn't bad esp once you gain access to the teleports, so if you want to do an other-than-bastok craft you just have to wait a little longer. I started in Bastok as Hume and my primary craft is cooking.

<-- Started in san for a couple of reasons. When I first started and most of the time since then San was #1 in conquest points (cheaper and more quantity at NPCs), we had a better economy since then everyplace has pretty much leveled out, and Bastok is a city built out of pebbles......very ugly in my opinion San Odoria is a beautiful city (just ignore the elves...the big man works them pretty hard).

I agree with KamaAina i think San d'Oria is a very nice looking place and Bastok is, well, ugly. But since humes get the free ring, i am going to start at Bastok and then travel to San d'Oria with my friend.www.crystalwarsonline.com

I do aggree however that looks really should be the deciding factor. If you don't like how your home nation looks thats worse than any other scenario. I didn't like the way Bastok looked at first, indeed Gustaberg could be described as a barren wasteland compared to Ronfaure and Sarutabaruta which have lots of color and vegetation. But tbh Bastok has really grown on me, It seems alot cozier than the huge castle that is SanD and the sprawling Windhurst. Its like a little town carved out of the mountain. The added cherry blossom trees(i think that is what they are) have been a vast improvement to Bastoks ambiance. Also i cannot stand the way the elvaan look with their craine necks and rediculously long limbs, and even choosing hume you still have all the npcs to look at.

I started in Bastok, but switched to San odoria. To do this you must talk to the RK guard I think or is it the consul I cant remember. But you pay based on the nation that you are switching to's rank.RNG : 66 NIN : 30 WAR : 49 MNK : 72 THF : 18 WHM : 10

Actually having control of more areas is a good thing.
For one it is alot easier to get a signet, there are more options at the NPCs, and alot of CP gear gives you bonuses if your nation has control over the area. (course some federation equipment gives you bonuses in areas not controlled lol)RNG : 66 NIN : 30 WAR : 49 MNK : 72 THF : 18 WHM : 10

oh, and by the way, i'm asking these questions (they probably seem stupid to you) because I don't even have the game yet. I am buying it for PS2. My mom said hat I have to wait for my report card to come (one or 2 weeks) so, IF i get it (damn i hope i do!) maybe we can play together sometime and you can help me level up ;-) lolwww.crystalwarsonline.com
