  • Profitable AH items

I'm someone who is willing to risk the money I make to buy high value items at low cost and resale them for greater value.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on items to buy for higher resale cost.?

I'm currently looking for items that sell at 40-60K gill. Any help is appreciated.

If you're willing to risk it, trial & error. I've taken the chances on a bunch of < 20K items, but won't risk anything higher than that.

Buying Low and Selling high doesnt really work well in FF becuase of the auction house system itself. The only way this can even somewhat work is to buy a item from one town and sell it in another.

What alot of people do though is buy things from stores and sell them for more. Lots of naive players still lurking and will be more when the PS2 releases. That is why the economy sucks, influx of new players. All new MMORPG's are like that though and it will balance out.

Lol, the FFXI economy is really screwed over if you ask me... it just doesn't make sense at all...

For one, you can go and buy flower pots at stores for - oh let's say 1000 GIL... on the AH it's like 1500-2000...

Also, another idea would be to buy from another nation's AH and sell at your nation's AH which you would know the prices better...

Not gonna say which nation or what server - but you can buy this certain item in one nation for 20,000 and can be sold at another nation for 50,000... screwed dontcha think?

It's just that you gotta pay attention to these things - make a list even =P... you'll be surprised at how there are so many ways of making easy money...

The reason why some items are cheaper on vendors than on the AH is because people don't know where these vendors are that sell these items. So, you could either see these people who buy vendor items and make a 50% profit on it at the AH as "scumbaggish" or you could see it as them providing a service.

actually - let me give you an example of what i'm talking about - because i know about buying low at one nation's AH and selling high at another AH.... i want to avoid that system cause i'm lazy.

            @ Jueno - i buy
            RYL.SQR ARMOR for 30K
            on hand QTY. - 1

i know that there is a demand for this item - so i buy it knowing that someone will buy it.

i resale the same item for 36K and sell it 4 hours later.

that is the kind of sale i am looking into. does anyone know of any other HIGH DEMAND item that is usually in LOW SUPPLY.???

That doesnt work in FFXI because of the auction system. People saw what you bought it for and since you bought it low no one will want to buy it higher than what you bought it for they will wait for someone to see what you bought it for then set their price to that.

The best you can do for buy low and sell high is town to town. There is a large price difference on certain items between Juneo and hometowns. Best way to work the auction house is bazaar -> AH sales or NPC -> AH sales.

However if you get a really good item that is extremely expensive you wouldnt want to hold onto it in a MMORPG economy. You would want to get your hands off it ASAP for money because items prices degrade but money does not. If you can get 37k for a item now wait a month it will be like 20k. So if you are looking to invest garther gill and keep it. Thats why you want to level fast as possible because your gear will drop in value making it harder to upgrade to the next gear because when you sell your current gear you wil only get so much back. Just wait to you see how much 100k gill will get you a few months from now, everything will be farmed to hell and the prices will be dead.
There is an exception to this rule however. If a new influx of players join it will skyrocket the prices agian, because they dont understand what things are worth what and prices are greatly effected so it goes in reverse. So when it releases on PS2 and EURO youl will see the economy take a few steps back.

Well thats MMORPG economic theory for now.

besides the point say you buy a scroll of drain in jeuno for 10k...
you think hey ima take this to windurst and sell it for 15k+!!

well the main problem here is that for high end items most are smart enuff to go to jeuno and do there shopping...

might be 5 drain scrolls sold in jeuno in a day whereas theres only been 1 sold in windurst the intire week...

theres no easy, no challange, way of making gil in this game bud sorry...
you gotta work for your money here

What I've noticed is that npc's offer items at different prices to different people. Maybe it's to do with fame, charisma, whatever, but I just bought Sleep II at Jeuno magic shop and put it up for sale at AH for about 3.5k more (still 1k less than last sale price). If nobody buys it and it gets returned to MH I'll just learn the spell lol :D

There are a few items out there for BLSH, but the ONLY way you'll ever make a profit is selling town-to-town, intercity sales won't get you anything noticable and most people won't buy your stuff unless it's the only one available, and even then most people won't pay more than 5k extra for it.

Not all items are cheap in Jeuno and expensive in a starting city, either. I know one item I regularly BLSH that nets me a 10k profit buying from a starting city and selling it in Jeuno, and it's not a newbie item by any means. It's a third more expensive there, so don't go under the assumption EVERYTHING in Jeuno is cheaper. Most of the time it is (except for stacked items with their 500 gil tax) but there are a few exceptions.

I actually regularly make money through BLSH. I bought two alternates and I sell back and forth two and from Jeuno with them. I make about 10k a day (If I can get the item.) doing little but waiting for a sale. I'm going to start making 20k and eventually 30 and 40k a day if I can by selling multiples.

Always keep an eye out for a way to make a buck. You're prolly going to have to invest in a few other characters though, but for me a few real-life dollars is a small fee for an easier FFXI life.

And to anyone who says this is 'scumbaggish,' welcome to the real world. The richest guys out there earned their wealth through playing the market, and FFXI is just a little microcosm of real-world economics. I'm not FORCING anyone to buy an inflated product, I'm just playing off their naivete/laziness.

noble beds are 37-40k each at jeuno, and sell for 80-90k in windurst. Here's the catch, no one buys it at windurst. Whenever you THINK you can make 50k by just buying and selling items, take alook at the bid history and see when the last bid was placed. Mary's horn is around 20k or under in the 3 starting nations, and sell for 80-100k at jeuno. Another catch, no one is stupid enough to list mary's horn in the 3 starting nations.

I would say the most profitable item in rag is VE pin. When not in demand, you'll see 20+ listed in ah, and usually being sold at around 170-180k. When in demand, about 8 of them gets sold a day at 200-210k with little to none in stock left. Of course this get rich quick scheme could just as easily bring you down when you find out that VE pin prices go down for good. This does occassionally happen since VE is just about camped around the clock.

Personally, I don't use these methods to get money, for a couple simple reasons. The first reason is that I get more money from farming than I do by playing little mind games like those. The second reason is that since I go farming pretty often, my ah is usually filled up to the max. Keep in mind that I do get about 20-25k an hour just by farming, and unless some of these schemes actually profit me more per hour, I won't resort to them anytime soon.

Oh I farm tens of thousands of gil at a time, but I also make 10k free (pretty much) gil a day with little effort, while I can have my main character levelling and whatnot and not having to run off somewhere to farm a specific item.

Of course if you're trying to sell huge items in a starting city you're going to run into problems, but if you keep your endeavours on the low-middle range items, you can still make some profit.

I'm levelling a ranger, by the way, so I pretty much need this cash coming in all the time. Just in one day I can break even or with a profit on a level's worth of arrows without more than ten minutes of running a few alts around. Not bad, eh?

For just $3 per month you can have 3 mules, one in each starting city. That makes buying low and selling high a lot easier.

Buying from shops in one city and selling in the AH of another city is also a possibility. The different weapon shops stock different weapons, you can often not buy an item in Windurst that you can buy in Bastok. Also what is available changes with conquest rank, the city that is currently first in conquest will have a lot more items in stock in the shops.

Sure, you could say buying a weapon in Bastok and selling it for twice the money in Windurst is "fleecing newbies". But would a newbie really travel to Bastok to buy the weapon there?

I am a decent leveled character and from my experiences, you want stuff to sell fast over than something that sells for more but slower. Playing the AH's all over the world can be very profitable when you have airship passes. If your going to play the AH card just remember people with gil usually do not hang out in the starting cities.. the high rollers will almost always be hanging in jeuno in the gardens. I think only crafters with money might make a trip to a starting city but its risky because of avalibilty of items, Jeuno is the best place to sell.
