Hope's Requieum
Sylph's Last hope for Roleplaying
________________________________________________
Hello everyone, I would like to announce the public opening of the new roleplaying shell Hope's Requieum to anyone interested here on Sylph, or abroad. The forums are now open and can be located here:

Forum design is somewhat basic at the moment, and will be improved upon in the future.
What is roleplaying?
Despite the fact that the words Role and Playing are both in the genre name of Final Fantasy XI, quite a few players either don't know what roleplaying is or have strong misconceptions.
Roleplaying is taking on the pernona of your character as you play Final Fantasy XI. You choose facts, details and personality traits for your character and play them as you want to, interacting with other player's charachters with your own. By roleplaying you are becoming a citizen of Vana'Diel and acting as one would, in any way that you like.
Why should I care?
Roleplaying is something that definatly helps to make the boring times during FFXI signifigantly more interesting. When you are LFG or just have nothing to do, there are always people around to talk with and lots of interesting storylines to get involved with, or perhaps even make up your own.
I don't do Olde English
One common missconception about roleplaying; or RP, is that you need to speak in Olde English or some other flower dialect. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Your dialouge does not have to be wordy, and in many cases, a short and abrupt manner of speaking is more suitable for the character. Find a style that fits you and your charachter. The only thing you can not do is use leet or chat speak, which is something most of us would rather avoid even outside of RP.
Hahaha, you noobs are going to get killed too busy writing three line emotes to fight.
Although RP exists to make the drab times less boring, it isn't always neccesary, especially when the game is providing enough content to suffice by itself. RP during combat is not required, or even encouraged. If we go and do a boss fight or an ENM or something, we will most likely not RP, at least during the fight itself. RP in PT chat, say and tell are all non-obligatory, unless during an RP event. We still want our players to be competent, and RPing during combat is usually foolhardy and ridiculous.
Blech, Drama queens.
It's true, a lot of RP, especially on Sylph ends in drama. Drama is of course ok when it is between two charachters, in fact, a story without drama is rather boring. That being said, drama between two players will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly. Much of Sylph's RP past has been riddled with drama, causing various split offs and splinterings of other Linkshells etc.
But, I want to do Dynamis and Sky etc.
Hope's Requieum is not a replacement for your end game linkshells, nor are we trying to be. Many of us still do Dynamis and Sky/Sea/Limbus in other linkshells, and by no means do we ask that you drop any other shells. We still intend to have fun events for our members, but likely never anything of that scale.
I've never RP'd before though...
Don't worry about it! At first it will seem like there are a lot of rules, but they're all simple and will come naturally. As you continue to RP you will develop a stronger writing style and it will flow more naturally. We encourage new people who have never done so before to check out roleplaying. I myself am fairly new to it, but it has made my last few months in FFXI the most enjoyable I've ever had. If you find out RP is not for you, there will be no hard feelings if you leave.
Afterword
Hope's Requieum is currently a very small and new linkshell, with only a handful of members. However, all of our members are devoted to creating the best and most comfortable roleplaying environment possible. We ask that if you do join you have patience as we fill up our roster. We will still have fun events and activities to do, even if it is only a few of us.
In addition, before deciding, you can also check out other roleplaying linkshells, FFXI-Rescue and Legacy. We wish you the best of luck if you decide to join the roleplaying community, whatever Linkshell you do choose.
I look forward to seeing you in-game.
