    Greetings.

With this thread, I'm hoping to get some feedback on how Ramuh's population feels about it as a server in general - some positives and negatives. I chose Ramuh because I came across a few people who seem to think highly of it. I want to know things like 1. How common are bad party experiences? 2. Are there many people around who make your online experience bad? 3. Anything you think sticks out about the server.

I played on the Kujata server for several months after the NA release, but at the end of those months, was depressed to find that the game was no longer fun for me. A lack of party opportunities, lack of a fitting LS, the annoyance of limited equipment (I'd like to look different, but still be a viable asset to parties), and the horrible NM system all contributed to that end. What's really sad is that, as far as actual gameplay goes, FFXI has been one of my favorites. I haven't played it since then, but I'd like to have a fresh start again.

I've read that some servers have a real problem with some kind of automated NM-camping programs or something, and I'm hoping to encounter as little of that as possible. Also, I no longer have the box/CDs (I think I may have thrown them out). Are there any retail packages that contain the original FFXI, along with some expansions, or are they still all separate purchases?

    Thanks for your time,
Tirocupidus (though I have my heart set on a Taru named "Picodegallo" )

Over 2 years here, heh. Hopefully I won't find it difficult to get familiar with everything again. Acronyms are usually the biggest hindrance at first.

      Double Post Edited:

Nevermind on this. I found the info at the online store. X-Box comes with all 3 expansions, but Windows version comes only with RoZ and CoP. But it's cheaper than the X-Box version anyway.

Well.... newsflash. If you have friends already on Ramuh, your friends are able to get you the worldpass. Have you considered asking your friends? Maybe your friends are trying to send you a message that they don't want to play FFXI with you for one reason or another?

You could try to see if it'll give you the server randomly when creating a character. Just have to keep trying, and hope you get lucky.

              Re: Rate Ramuh

The only server I've ever been on is Ramuh so I couldn't honestly give you a good comparison. However, Ramuh is one of the older servers (one of the originals isn't it?) so the economy is pretty stable and has a lot of established players.

We do have our fair share botters, hackers, gill sellers and frauds, but over all I would say we're not the worst server nor are we the best server. Besides a few of the end-game linkshell dramas it could be considered pretty quiet even. Other than that, the community bumbs along pretty well.

              1. How common are bad party experiences?

Well, that's hard to answer. I can't imagine it being any different on our server than any other. Ramuh, being one of the older servers, probably has more experienced players, but even the most experienced players can have bad days.

              2. Are there many people around who make your online experience bad?
Depends on what you mean by making your online experience bad. Like I said before, we do have our fair share of botters, hackers, gill sellers and frauds, but not any more than any other server. As for the a-hats, jerks, etc... we got them. If we have more or less than another server I couldn't say.

              3. Anything you think sticks out about the server?
Overall, I think Ramuh is one of the better communities out there. We have our problems, don't get me wrong, but we also tend to have a more mature crowd at the helm, a steady economy, and a moderately decent end-game community (dear God, did I just say that!? ). However, like I said, I really can't give you a good comparison since it's the only server I've ever been on.

                Re: Rate Ramuh

Thanks for the input. I think I already decided to start on Ramuh when I came to the realization that most servers are probably very similar. Your post makes me think it's a good choice, though.

I think I've settled on a Taru Taru named Pico, if the name's available. Hope to see you around.

Edit: I'm now a Taru named Tipiro, re-learning the ropes.

                    Re: Rate Ramuh

Mmm, I've been on Ramuh for a while now (3 months) and I have to say...it's been rather boring. Just about everyone I've run into has been either rude, anti-social, or just unfriendly. It may be just me, but Ramuh seems to be the type of community that stays to itself, within their LS's, clique of friends or whatever. I really have yet to meet anyone friendly, helpful, or wanting to make a new friend.

I don't like it very much here. =/

It is interesting, but I've never had much luck at all. I always seem to get those "WTF NUKE IT I KEEP AGGRO *dies*" parties and run into people that just aren't very friendly at all. I'm fairly sure I'm not doing anything to recieve any kind of negetive treatment, so I don't know. Like I said, most people tend to stay within their own clique of friends, and with you having 3.5 years of experience, I'm sure you have that. Being relatively new and not having many connections to people isn't a very good position to be in, which makes my experience unpleasent.

I think, in FFXI, people tend to seek static groups, or stay within their own clique much more often than in other MMOs because good experience comes only with groups who pay attention and know what they're doing. I'm sure that sounds appealing to most people, including me, but there's also a sense of greater satisfaction that comes from having a good group with complete strangers. Unfortunately, pick-up groups will always be a risk for your time investment. Probably the best thing you can do is seek an linkshell with other people with similar playtimes.

You're expecting instant popularity and that doesn't happen. Why does SA have his friends? The same way I made friends in FFXI. You start out alone, very very alone Hitori. As you begin to play the game, you should be focusing most on the fundamentals of mp/hp efficiency, hate and aggro, and beginner party dynamics, instead of reaching out and expecting someone to always be there to do stuff for you.

There are plenty of friendly people out there, but they don't know who you are. When you've covered your basics, and people party with you and they see you play well, they'll remember who you are Hitori. Once you have shown that you aren't one of "those noobs", then people will begin to /wave at you when they pass by, start chatting with you more, and you'll probably get into a good linkshell then.

A quick word of advice on linkshells... if it's a linkshell that's shouting in town that they're looking for members, then it's probably not a good linkshell. If they have to shout to get new members, then it usually means they either invite the wrong kind of people to their shell or some of their current members aren't very nice people, and in either case it'll make a very unpleasant linkshell experience in the long run.

Good luck, play your job well, and people will notice you. It really is that simple.

Yeah, I know it takes time. Just a little while ago, I got scolded for being too impatient.

I guess I'll just hang in there. Some good luck has to come my way eventually, right? ^_^
