  • Question/Rant

Why is it that there are so many pt's in the dunes with PL's nowadays? This is starting to annoy me because alot of parties will not invite a whm because they have a PL. Not only does this affect a whm getting pt's, but it also makes a lot of people stupid. I remember back when the dunes was where people learned party mechanics and how things worked. Seems like now, the new people aren't learning anything and just kinda hack away at everything and anything moving with no kind of party setup or tactics whatsoever. Then we run into these people elsewhere where PL's are rare and they have no idea what they are doing! Sorry, this has just been bugging me lately and had to get it off my chest. Laziness breeds stupidity... and that's what I've been seeing in the dunes lately. I have just returned to Vana'diel and was excited to be back. However this is kind of discouraging me and making me want to just quit again. The only thing keeping me here right is the great SL members that I am so thankful I met and have fun talking to. Sorry, I just needed to vent...

    Re: Question/Rant

Its understandable. I'm not from Ramuh, but usually PL'ers are there b/c they have friends/ls mates who are lvl'ing their 2nd/3rd/4th etc. job and want to be in and out of the dunes as quickly as possible. If you have a PL'er its much more likely that your party will atleast be somewhat productive and you won't have to keep bouncing from useless party to useless party, only to net a couple hundred experience in the span of a few hours. I don't mind them as much when they just help you gain experience faster (downtime is usually a bitch in dunes, and a PL'er lets you get an extra chain or two. (Usually the pt's I've been in dunes with that have a PL'er are already complete parties and the PL'ers just help to speed things up.) I dont mind parties like that, usually b/c everyone in there already knows what to do. It sucks, but your best bet is just to make your own party. Good luck in the future though.

most people playing in the dunes have been to the dunes so many times that they just want to get it over with.

        Re: Question/Rant

I solo my way thru dunes with PL now ;/ Or make static with friends that need lv too... I just can't take this place anymore. I thought that after @a year of EU release it will get better, but its only getting worse and worse.

          Re: Question/Rant

if selbina had a nomad moogle, there would be less power levelling.

i know one of the main reasons players grab a pl is so they don't have to shout for a raise to random passerby's. that totally sucks ><

levelling faster is just a bonus, imo...

            Re: Question/Rant

I totally agree with the original poster. PL PTs is something that has aggrevated me for a LONG time. People won't join a PT if you don't have a PL. People will send you a tell asking you to join a PT and will include "We have a PL" like that's supposed to make some kind of difference. Ultimately, nobody learns how to play their job because they've been PL'd. DRKs don't learn how to manage the hate they get. PLDs don't learn how to tank. Mages don't learn how to manage their MP. The list goes on. I flat-out refuse PT calls that have a PLer, regardless of my level and how badly I want to advance. I've been cursed out and called a noob before for this, but it's something I feel strongly about.

If you take the time to build a competent PT, not only can you get through Valkurm quickly, but you can have the sense of accomplishment of knowing you did it YOURSELF, and you can learn what the heck you're doing before you get to qufim, kazham, garlaige, or the nest and realize that you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what's going on.

              Re: Question/Rant

Nice to know I'm not the only one. I have no problems taking a PL in the dunes, but I also have no problems quitting a stupid party. I still ask what the skillchain is, and what the magic burst is. I still make sure I know who the tank the main healer are. And if the answer is, "We don't need a skillchain, we have a PL" then I have no problems leaving. When asked why, they get the answer, "PL Boring. Why would I want someone else to play the game for me?"

That being said, I do PL in the dunes from time to time, usually when an LS mate is going through for the third of sixth time. But I also tell the party the only thing they can expect from me is Haste and Protect II on the tank, and healing -after- the mob is killed so they can chain better.

"d00d! Why did you let the mage die?" is the question that invariably comes up in those situations.

The answer is always, "Why did they spam Elemental Spells? Why didn't the Nin/War or the War/Nin or the Sam/War provoke? I told you what I would do, I won't play the game before you. You want a Raise or not?"

"But d00d you're high level! you could have saved us!"

              "PL <Do you need it?> 30k/hr! </no> <death> <promise> <Do you need it?> 50k/hr!"

Usually they shut up or log out at that point. XD

                Re: Question/Rant

i don't have any problem pll'ing or being pl'd in the dunes. just get those lower levels over with lol.

when i pl, i usually stop at level 14 (crabs. you don't need a pl to fight crabs =P). levels 9-13 suck without a pl, but starting at around 14 dunes gets fun. most jobs get some special ability at 15 anyway.

                  Re: Question/Rant

Its not just the dunes. It doesn't seem to matter where I get a party someone brings a PL. Dunes, Qufim, Yutungah, Yhator, Garlaige. I've had a PL in them all recently.

Exactly! Then when you get passed all those places and a PL can't really help you anymore, you get a mass of stupid people getting everyone killed for like 1k exp an hour!
