As far as I remember S-E said something about ditching FFXI on PS2. After some point they will get no more updates, like PC and X630 or whatever its called will get. I think they finally undrestoon that all the same armors and mobs get boring and are looking for a way to upgrade the game, the only limitation being ps2 limits.

No dont be silly nothing like that will happen. The PS2 players will be able to play FFXI just as long as PC or Xbox360 users will be.

eventually though, either FFXI simply ceases getting updates (screwing everyone) because of the PS2's limitations, or they just cease the support for PS2 altogether (screwing some people)

what do you think is the future feasible option?

I think they will find a way to solve it.. maybe just PS2 get less updates or miss certain improvements PC/Xbox360 players will get, but i highly doubt that eventually PS2 players can throw away their game.

yea, for example if square wants to add more jobs in the distant future, the PS2 players will just have to buy a PC if they want to play as those jobs ^^

or if they want to add new items;
maps;
cities;
monsters;
abilities;
npcs;
quests;
missions;
recipes;
spells;

eventually the PS2 HDD just wont be able to stand a chance ^_^, and believe me, 20gb of diskspace isnt gonna be uncommon for the total ammount of space an installed game will consume in the near future

Not when games are coming on 25/50GB Blu-ray disks. Terrabyte drives will propbably be becoming more popular and affordable within the next few years.
