A. are there still ppl on this server since the emigration thing. i chose this server on random and i didnt see as many ppl as i thought i would, so should i change servers cuz i cnt find anyone to party with, or is this still a good populated server?

B. if anyone could explain what linkshells are i would appreciate it

No clue about Odin, but a Linkshell is an item which you can equip. Once you've done so, you can participate in the Linkshell's chat. You can have multiple Linkshells in inventory, but at most one active at any time. It's a bit like a chat room, though members tend to operate like a club.

Linkshells are a bit like guilds in other games, though not necessarily as formal. Still, social organizations in FFXI evolved around it (and thus players can and often do add formality and rules to the membership), and most people strongly identify themselves with their linkshells. One can go so far as saying you'd be missing out a great of of the FFXI experience if you do not have (a good) LS.

Many veteran players has a primary LS which is equipped most of the time, then one or more event or activity LS which is only used at scheduled times during the week.

Without actually knowing for sure, I'd would still think Odin's population is fairly large. According to FFXIAH.com, Odin currently has the most characters on it; at about 43,000. This data may or may not be current or accurate. Best thing to do is at random times during the day, type "/sea all" (without quotes) and it will tell you how many people are currently logged in. Take into account peak times for each region (North America, Europe, and Japan) and you can start to get a good feel for how high the server population is.

Since the expansion has been out, our population is more scattered throughout our world now. There are still plenty of ppl on Odin. There are a few newbie linkshells that are willing to help educate ppl like you here.
