Just created my first toon on FENRIR!!

Hi , everyone .. im new to Final Fantasy and apparently this is alot rougher then most MMO's this gal has played..

Anywho i started a WHM and im level 8 now .. if anyone has any tips id love them .. or even free gear and gil !!!

Tee hee anywho , im 28 and i live in MN so i speak Engrish verrry weeel

i have no guilds , shells or whatever , been very quit wich is a change from WoW

Welcome to the game, and the server.

If you haven't yet, check out this thread and the NPC discussed therein. That should get you a good start.

This likely sounds harsh, but never ask for items or gil in-game. It's seen as begging no matter how nicely you ask, and it's frowned upon pretty heavily; everyone else has to work for it, too. (Asking for help is completely different, and there are plenty of helpful people around who are happy to give you pointers or lend you a hand or show you how to do something.)

I won't be on for a while (no time for it probably until the first Friday in October, if then), but if you do catch me on anytime, feel free to send a tell with any questions or what-have-you. If I'm not engaged with prior commitments, I'll come level sync with you or something, too.

If you can find some other newer players around (Pssst, NewbZealand, get in this thread), I'd suggest hooking up when you can. Experienced players are good for knowledge and advice and such, but exploring can be a lot more fun with newer people.

So i hit level 10-11 and the game just came to a screeching alt... literally

no one speaks english .. no one invites me .. i ask all day for invites or creating a party for dunes and everyone is full or they dont want to level sync to 11...

all my gear is crazy expensive to buy on the AH and for some reason my city isnt owned so i cant use the armor vendor...


everyone tells me this game is alot better as i progress but im stuck in a rut as big as the giant canyon..

m not dumb . i know i need to ask around for parties or help . and ive spent many many hours doing that .. but i get alot of no's

Actually, no, don't ask to join parties. If you're looking to join a party, fill out your search comments, put up your party flag, and keep soloing while you wait. If you're looking to start a party, use the search function to find people who have their flags up, read their comments, and ask politely (with the auto-translator unless you're 100% sure they speak English).

Asking to join a party is considered rude, and shouting that you're looking for one is just spam. Anyone who's interested in joining a party will have their flag up. Anyone who's building a party will be searching for people with flags. You're more likely to make someone not want to invite you by approaching them directly or shouting than you are to get an invite. (Obviously, if you're building a party, you'll have to send tells.)

You can solo in Konschtat or La Theine, there's no reason to stay in the Dunes. Party leaders will be searching through the whole region or the whole world for players looking for a party.

All that being said, that's just how it goes sometimes. Especially, yes, at low levels. A lot of people just choose to solo low levels these days, because it can be much easier to guarantee a decent amount of XP vs. taking a chance on a pick-up party. We've all been there, and it does suck, but there isn't much for it but to stick with it.

You can always take it as an opportunity to farm for gear; that is something you'll be doing a lot of as you progress. You could make the trip to one of the other starting cities for gear if it's available at their shops. Or maybe find someone with easier access willing to do the shopping for you as long as you supply the gil (I'd offer, but I won't be logging on for a while).

The best suggestion I can make is to check out the link in the first reply of this thread. Those quests have some great rewards for beginners, and gives you something to do while looking for party. In addition to doing those quests, you can farm while you are looking for a party. Farming will be slow (I am assuming you are still Whm), but well worth it when you can afford those pieces of gear you are wanting off the AH. Can you tell us what city you started in? We can make suggestions on which items will net you the most return on your time investment.

You should have more luck on Saturdays looking for party, it seems to be the most popular day for partying on fenrir, at least in my recent experience.

Also, let me know what time zone you are in and when you normally sign on in-game.

Last bit of advice, try not to get frustrated too quickly. Even though the game leans heavily to party/group activity there is a lot of content that can be very fun, and you can do solo.

Edit: To go along with the last thing Ellipses stated, check out FFXIClopedia to see where those armor pieces can be obtained. I'd be happy to do some shopping in jeuno if the gear you want is cheaper there. Check out FFXIAH to find out if the items are less expensive than your home town AH. Be sure to choose the Fenrir server on the top left of the page.

Yeah , im a level 12 Whm currently by a telaport area North of the dunes .

I can solo everything here cept the Akbaba's ... I live in Minnesota so my time zone is central .. i usually play all day since im a mom

The quests I mentioned are not for armor, but the rewards are still very nice. If you are hoping to group with people during the weekday/day time hours in the Central Standard Timezone your options will be limited to mostly Japanese and European players.

It sounds like you are actually doing a decent job soloing on Whm. I know the experience points must be coming slow, but it's better than nothing. Just keep your Looking for Party flag up, and keep plugging away at those easy prey mobs.
