  • New to Bahamut and FFXI.

I'm a level 5 WAR, and I seem to be extremely poor...

So far I've completed the first mission given by the guards, and now I'm on the Bat Hunt one. Can anyone suggest an easy way to make money. The San d'Oria Auction House has Butterfly Axes for 3000 gil, but I can't seem to earn more than a few at a time. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Also can someone explain Linkshells to me?

    1) Mission's dont give you gill, only if you beat the last mission in the current rank. 2) Quests give you gil/fame, I'm not San d'orian so I cant help you with that sorry.

Linkshell's, are groups in which you chat with your friends, go on missions, quests, get advice etc. It cost 8000 gil to make your own LS. If you want to join someones, just ask them!

Also, one more thing, I would check Sandy, to see if there is cheaper equipment then the AH. Somtimes the AHs can really cheap you out of your money lol. I know I am only level 4 I haven't been playing much because of Xmas etc..But, I have been learning alot from this site. So, if you stay around you might learn alot too!

      1. Signet. Find it, get it, keep it. With signet on, enemies you defeat may drop crystals, which you can save up and sell as stacks (groups of 12 or 99, depending on the item) of on the auction house.

      2. Keep everything you get from fighting monsters. Don't throw stuff away until you've found how much you can sell it for; be it to an NPC or on the AH. If you constantly get items that sell for 10g, throw em out to make room for the items that get you 100g, etc.

      3. Local vendors will sell lowbie gear for a lot cheaper than the auction house. Refer to these pages on the wiki to find NPCs that sell equipment: South Sandy, North Sandy, Port Sandy.

As for your butterfly axe issue, unfortunately you cannot buy it anywhere in San d'Oria other than the AH. Don't be discouraged. Save some gil and purchase it. You'll enjoy playing warrior a lot more if you start using a great axe from the start.

Thanks for the help. I heard that there is an NPC in Sandy that will give 120 gil for 3 Rabbit Skins. Any truth to that?

Also, is there a better map site other than ffxi-maps ?

I've found that certain items can make you a little gil at the auction house, however not immediately. Wild Onions dropped by goblins have always gotten me about 300 gil a day, someone just keeps buying them. The other items you get that don't sell at the AH, just sell to the NPC. Eventually, if you sell enough things, you will accumulate enough gil to buy one large thing, or a few small things, depending on what you are in the market for.

If you have played another MMORPG, then you could most likely relate a linkshell to a guild. You equip a linkshell, and it allows you to communicate to a number of people, who have equipped the linkshell of the same group. It doesn't matter where they are.

There is also ffxi-atlas for maps, which you may prefer.

I'd agree with Dolce's advice, go hunt down some goblins and get their wild onions.. they sell for a pretty penny at low levels. So do rabbit hides and crystals.

If you see me online feel free to hit me up with questions, and maybe I can help you out with any quests or missions you need to get done.

Indeed there is. Lots of handy information on that site.
