BTW, I've heard stories that years ago Lv.50 people actually banded together in parties and alliances to do this, and those Papyrus hunts were a huge events. That must have been something...

I played through this phase of the game. There were many nights when we'd see multiple groups in Eldieme trying to get ancient papyrus and fighting for spawns. Ditto for Crawlers' Nest for exoray mold.

Do I miss it?

Yeah. The first time I did LB1 I did it in a party of level 50s. We were one of four parties in Eldieme that week (yes week), and while it was fun, I wouldn't want to have to do it that way again.

I once wrote a rant about the stupid things people do in papyrus parties (primarily, going in from the Jeuno side in the first place, but there's also the usual blood aggro stupidity etc.) Ah, those were the days.

I kind of miss the time when there were enough people who needed it that my LS would do it as an event, though (with a detour to the Vahzl telepoint for people that didn't have the crystal, too). Now it's just "find 1-2 people, run through ranguemont and beaucedine, kill some liches". The ratio of travel time to killing time makes it seem like a waste to go up there - but it isn't, as you'll quickly discover if you try to do it from the jeuno side and get 2-3 other monsters for every lich (sometimes as midfight pop-aggros, there are hardly any truly safe camps in the lower part of Eldieme).

For anyone reading this thread that hasn't got papyrus yet - I recommend the tunnel at D-6 in the part of Eldieme reached through Beaucedine. It takes a little while to get to, but once you're there you can pull practically nothing but liches with no chance of aggro while you're fighting (as long as you are properly positioned). More liches, less aggro = win.

BTW - OP is a RDM. If he has trouble traveling without aggro - when he has a guide with a map! - he doesn't deserve to be level 51. XD

He had no trouble traveling without aggro today when we did the run. I mean, he did get it a few times, but that's because we told him not to bother with Sneak/Invis for most of the trip.

He was casting sneak and invis fine through this, so no worries there!

I must offer my thanks to Kirst and Murphie, both are wonderful people and I learnt more so that RDM rules XD

Yeah I couldnt believe it...4hrs with mr THF and his stupid TH2, with nothing more than a stack of bone chips to show. 1 1/2 hrs (?) with Kirst and Murphie and I get Bomb Coal 1/1, Mold 1/4, and Papyrus 1/2. Didnt even lose enough HP to go yellow.

And they got me the Vhazl crystal.

What can I say? I wish there were more people like this in the game. (or maybe not too mamy coz then I would get too lazy)

NM hunt tonight, then start partying RDM again at the weekend. Should be 51+ in no time!!

Hehe, just when I think I have things down, I bump into people like these two, and just from their general banter I can tell I have sooooo much to learn.

Ah the memories, indeed G1 was a great (read annoying) experience for me.

But now I look back and really miss those days.

Some friends helped me get my items, pld, thf, blm, and me, other members kinda came and went.

We go to the Crawler's Nest and the third Exoray we kill drops the mold. I lot on it and everyone but a blm who shall go nameless passes on it. He thought he had passed it, but I guess he didn't because it didn't go to me and he casted Escape ; ;

.5 seconds before Escape went off he suddenly realised and tried running around (didn't have time to switch gear) but to no avail ; ;

4 hours later I regain my mold
