  • Beaches, Parties, and Ignorance.

Asura~ It's big, very big. So big that you can't even begin to imagine how mind-boggeling vastly huge it is. Ok, so that's an exaggeration and has nothing to do with the post.

Not to state the obvious, but is it just me or are people getting dumber?

Recently I reached level 30 with my BLM and had to go back to the dunes to level my 15 WHM up. Actually, I put it off for a week because I dreaded going to the dunes. But I went back, eventually, and got invited to a party in no time. The party seemed to be running smoothly because within the first ten minutes I dinged to 16. "Things are looking up." I thought. Oh no, I was so wrong. As soon as I thought that the people in my party began to talk. "Lol we're moving camp, lol." Was somthing a person other than than the leader said. The leader replies to this, "What? No, we're staying." To which the guy replied, "No, we have to go!" The leader replied, "Why?". Well guess what happened in the end. The guy moved... and was all alone and kept saying "Guys, let's go!" There was no way to reason with him.

He was about to be kicked when EVERYONE but me and the leader moved to where he was. "Sweet Jesus." I thought, but I stayed ever so silent, I already had a headache. Then they just left, just out of nowhere! The leader stomped of in a flurry of swear words. Well, this was to be expected, I'm in the dunes after all.

Then came the five second party, so fun. The leader invites me (blindly mind you) and I join. As soon as I get in I tell the leader. "Next time you should ask a person before inviteing them. It's proper etiquette." I expected somthing in return like "I'm sorry." or "Well, I'll keep that in mind." No.... no no no no no. I got "STFU n00b." SERIOUSLY!
The subless warrior leader just told the mage that's going to keep him alive to "STFU". My head really started pounding. I decided to let it slide, he was a new guy after all... he doesn't know the difference. Then I decided I was going to let him die. We had a BLU invited next and within a five second time span the leader told him to come to <pos> 6 times. The BLU just exploded, you could tell he was a salted dog. "Shut the HELL up. etc"
The blu used words I had never seen before, great variations of the F word etc. Then he left, but the leader claimed he kicked him. Then I simply told the loser, "You won't be playing much longer." Then I left.

Finally the last party for the night, this one was great. Keep in mind that my main is BLM. We actually had a good party. The monk made a few remarks here and there, but I'm willing to bet the kid was like 13, so it was ok. You know what happened? One of the WARs left and we invited a BLM. I thought it was going to be interesting to watch. So we're in the middle of a fight when the BLM finally gets to us and he casts a spell, water. The spell did just fine, it's what his macro was. It went somthing like this, "I'm peeing on your head and telling you it's rain." and all he did was SPAM it. Now, I don't liek to black list people on the off chance that they may actually have somthing informative to say. So I told the BLM, "I'm sorry about this, I really am, but I'm going to have to stab you in the face." Then the leader told me in a tell, "That was rude." By this time my head was about ready to explode. I just waited, calmly, in a state of trance until the PT disbanded.

Here's the thing. I'm seriously concerned about Asura. I hope that this was like a major fluke and that these players will either A.) Grow a freakin' Brain or B.) Just stop playing all together. But will we honestly be partying with these type of people at level 50~75? If so I'm about ready to hop on the next migration bus.
"Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Welcome to Alice in FFXI =P

Well with the xbox360 release, there are a number of new players who still haven't gotten used to the traditions that we've all adapted to (blind invites for an example), etc. Plus, probably the fan base who bought the game is younger? (Not too sure).

Sure you weren't levelling corsair? 'The BLU just exploded, you could tell he was a salted dog.' Yaar me salty olde sea dogge...

Anywhow, I sympathise. I can only reccomend forming you own parties or soloing to 20. I personally enjoy the solo to 20, but have recently gone to the dunes deliberately. Am I a masochist? No, I just wanted to learn the new roles involved with my new jobs, ie. how to use SA for thief(run around in circles 'cos no-one can hold hate), tanking on my pld and war (and as it turns out sam, well the dunes are flexible if anything) and pulling (learned to ignore complaints about low xp when starting a chain). Not quite the learning experience I was looking for, but educational none the less.

Some heroic moments were: Fighting lizzies near konschtant(sp?), gob aggros, people start legging it for the zoneline. As the sam/war tank(...) I hold hate while everyone legs it, whm stays back and keeps me alive (bless them!), notice I have 240+ tp and I 2hr it to death ^^

Tanking as a war/rng pulling flys, inevitably we get a link and I tank it solo for 2 mins using potions and sebina milk. Spent the last 30 secs running a circle around the camp ^^ Somehow we all survived that one.

        Re: Beaches, Parties, and Ignorance.

I'm on the Asura server myself, and I have noticed alot of new players who are just bad. I've seen a 21 thf (no sub) who told me to "STFU n00b" when I suggested he get his sub job before looking for invites in Qufim Island. There also seems to be a sharp increase in War/Whm and Rdm/War in parties as of late. Not forgetting the sharp increase of childish/juvenille behavior and language on the server. I'm hoping that some of this will pass with time. Well thats my 2 cents on this.

I haven't seen any of this but I have seen plenty of dumb moves. We were pting to 20 and the first person to hit sayed they were willing to leave whenever. So I found a replacement and when they got there, they decided to solo some weaker mobs while we waited for the lvl 20 player to get a decent buffer. When he reached the buffer, I told him his replacement was there and he got mad. Stayed polite about it but was still mad.
At Qufim, I ended up in a low lvl pt that was running around the pond killing worms. Whole thing was insanly disorganised but that wasn't the real problem, lol. Apparently the bst had said something the the whm before I showed(good whm too that I had pted with before so he was chatting through /tells with me) and the whm would not heal her, lol. Guess she insulted him because she died. Whenever she asked to be healed, all he said was don't dis the whm next time. Had a pl shortly after the bst left and things went smooth from there. Then we moved camp and ended up with 2 more pls so our first one went to his invite. I pulled until I ran out of things to pull. Bad start had a great end.

            Re: Beaches, Parties, and Ignorance.

We all have to go through it. I've done it on 7 jobs >.> Nothing you can really do but convince parties to do the Maze Of Shikakimi(sp? lol) or ride over to Mhura (never seen a party over there, so good luck w/ that). Just be greatful you weren't fighting pugs.

              Re: Beaches, Parties, and Ignorance.

I'm on Asura also, just started a second character, and only came to the dunes for 16-20 (soloed to 12, then hit the Maze to 16 before that with some LS mates).

It really depends on who you end up with. First party I get, the leader was a WAR with RDM sub. He was also Rank 6. So I asked him (nicely, and in /t) "just curious why you have RDM sub on WAR?". His reply: "I'll do what I want if you don't like it I will kick you, noob. You want pt or not?" LOL. *sigh*

Then, boom - next party I get was PLD, BRD, BLM (me), WHM, SMN, BLU. Got from 16-20 in a few hours and everyone was mature and got along great.

On my way out of the dunes to head back to the boat, Mr. WAR/RDM still in same spot as when I first saw him, now with LFP flag up.

So I'm sure it's the same on all servers. I think the idiots get weeded out as the levels increase - for the most part.

You're a WHM in the dunes - best bet is to start your own parties there. Remember, they need you more than you need them.

What I don't think I will ever understand is why new people always call everyone else noobs. Any experianced person would give you a reason for their sub being odd. Even if it was just trying something they heard works well and wanted to see for themselves.

It's because they haven't been humbled yet. When they get owned on a mob you said they shouldn't of done and then show up again as a Lv. 60-75 job and own the place to clear it for their safety they shut up pretty quickly.

                      Re: Beaches, Parties, and Ignorance.

I've seen two people get GM booted for shouting obscenities etc. in town over the past two weeks. I've also been subjected to lewd remarks (in tell) in the style of the Vietnamese prostitute from Full Metal Jacket which, while entertaining, would not have been appropriate for some players. I'm not one to be easily offended (by anything), but I think that this type of behavior degrades the beauty of the game and ruins the fantasy.

MUDing (as we used to call it in the olden days) has been around for a long time and I have never seen such lack of respect for others as I have recently. When I started FFXI, I really liked it b/c most people were nice. I see people being harassed a lot more often now than before and many of the new players are unhelpful at best. A younger character was looking for a new weapon and hadn't the money for one being low level and was being harassed by some unpleasant characters (one of whom had a name containing the same string as the person who did the FMJ prostitute routine for me) b/c he asked for help getting a new weapon (e.g. begging which I don't generally give in to, as I'm always in favor of doing your own work, but I'm sure it can be tough for some characters), so I donated some reagents and my time to synth up his weapon just because I didn't want him to have the impression that everyone on the server is a complete d---cheese and possibly add him to their ranks.

I don't like Valkurm, but I do like Konschtat and La Thiene--nice little meadowy places without all of that blinding sand and a nice mix of creatures and crystals to field-synth off of, but I'll occasionally get invites (sometimes blind) when my flag is down. I make it a point not to activate my Empress for at least 10 fights as half the time someone will leave without subbing out or requesting a sub-out. People leave PT when they get what they want not caring to stay and help those who helped them. I doubt if I'll end up in Valk again until I need to camp VE for the Hairpin--Buburimu is a lot quieter and the bogy's are not as deadly...

                      Cheers.

Gah, things like this make me glad i left when i did, but on a side note, how is the server economy going? I quit 3 days after getting up 3 million for a Walkure Mask, only to find it had doubled in price overnight!

                          I have no idea.

Anyway, i do notice a lot of, not to be rude, dumb people. It's pretty much standard for online games. Typing is apparently too hard.

I'm just surprised I don't see anyone willing to take this game a little seriously. Make their own Final Fantasy, ya know? Though that might be just because I'm very new.

I am coming into this game riding the Xbox 360 bandwagon. Not all of us are bad Not just me, for instance. I was soloing in Sgusta with toughs and i had some WHM follow me around and keep me healed, out of Party. I was just impressed. Vondathered was his name i think.

And about typing, it is hard and long to type using the on screen keyboard with the 360 controller. So if people are a little quite they probably are typing, just takes them a while.
