Hey All!!! Im New on FFXI and im on the Asura server , i like the game but the only problem is that , i dont know anybody and im a ''Big Time'' Noob , so if someone can guide me a little bit in the game , like , what's the best when you start a character , training? , Missions? , or anything else i dont know ^_^. So if someone can guide me my name in game is Algus , Im only lvl 5 i only played for 1 day. Thanks in Advance for your help All!!!

Well what jobs are you training and hoping to be your main, what nation are you from? I can give you more info if i new some of those things. Though i can help you a little, I would just start training your chatacter and do missions a little later XD. and ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SIGNET CAST ON YOU, it comes in handy. If you dont know what a signet is or where to get it it is a "buff" cast on you by one of the gaurds inside town at the gate you exit from to go outside to train your character. It allows you to get crystals from killed mobs and every mob you kill that i EP or above you gain conquest points (CP) which become important later. Well thats just some advice i have for beginners, if you have anymore questions i'll do my best to answer them. (sorry if some of my explanations are a little unclear or if you already know this stuff)

Im A Warrior Hopin to become a Dark Knight , And , I understand all what you told me and i just learn a lot from what you told me ^_^ , thanks for your help , Ima try to get a signet like you told me , I dont really understand what you said about Crystals and other things like that but ima learn . As a fellow n00b, the biggest tip I can pass on is what I've been given over and over: get the strategy guide. I've got mine on order, so I can't vouch for it personally, but many long-time players I've talked to have recommended it as a good source for n00bs.

I would follow homlessdragon's advice to buy the strategy guide(i bought mine before i even had the game XD) though i dont know if there is a new strategy guide coming out with the expansion, if so you may want to wait for that or buy one now and get the new one when it comes out. As for crystals: There are 7 elemental crystals Fire, Wind. Water, Earth, Lightning, Dark and light. They are dropped off mobs and are able to form a stack (stack=12 items put together to take up 1 inventory slot<NOT ALL items are stackable>) Crystals are used for craftin in guilds such as blacksmithing, goldsmithing alchemy etc. but at early levels they are sold by the stack for gil you will not get Light and Dark crystals til later in the game so fire crystals are the most common and slightly more expensive by either 1-2k gil. so as you level you charater, keep sorting you inventory when you get crystals and sell them at the Auction house (AH) for abour 4-6k of gil. (sorry if anything i said is confusing, if so ask me and i'll try to clarify) As for your job, You are hoping to become a DRK so you want to train mnk to lvl 18 to sub for your Warrior to take to lvl 30. As warrior you want to lvl Great sword or scythe or both(you can focus on one weapon and skill up on another later) no when you get DRK you will want to sub WAR all the way to 60, now you also want to train THF to 37 so you can sub that for DRK from lvl 60-75 tou can do the same with WAR but THF offers SATA (Sneak Attack Trick Attack) which will allow you to do some pretty INSANE damage which is good and somewhat bad but we weill talk about the bad part later. Well that the advice i have for you today, if you have anymore questions just ask and i'll be happy to do what i can to help. Good luck on DRK

P.S. If you ever hear anyone dissing Dragoons (DRG) dont believe what they say, DRGs are as good as any job and can be a DRKs best friend in light Weapon skills, (weapon skill talk later)

Yes bastock is the name of the nation. Basically you want to train in south gustaburg and fight easy preys to even matches, Decent chalenges is the most common kind mob fought in the early levels. Becareful of Quadavs (hoped i spelled that right XD) if you fight them when they are close together others will join to help thir "friend" and beat the crap out of you, though you may have already ;earned this the hard way, but that situation is what we call a link so becareful out there. when the mobs in south gustaburg start becoming easy preys (EP) that give low exp then you may want to move to north gustaburg. When you reach level 10-12 you will want to go to valkrum dunes. We will talk about the dunes later but i warn you now YOU WILL DIE SO MANY TIMES IN THE DUNES YOU WILL WANT TO CRY, but again we will talk about the dunes when you ready. so basically you want to train in south and north gustaburg til about lvls 10 11 or 12.

This part i kind of forgot about but you may need to know or you will wonder what the hell people are saying

FFXI "Lingo": Easy prey= EP, Decent challenge=DC, Tough=T, Very Tough=VT, Incredibly Tough=IT(sometimes it will say IT and seems to have high defence and evasion, if it says both its an IT++ if it says one of those its an IT+ if it doesnt say it it is an IT, if it says low evasion and/or defence then its a slightly weaker IT)
DC or D/C= Disconnect(ed), Aggro= monster that attacks you even if you didnt do anything to it so if it attacked you you pulled agro(aggression)
Train=a long line of mobs that have either linked or aggroed a character and is chasing him/her
NM=Notorious Monster
BCNM=Burning Circle notorious monster

ok these are just a few terms used in FFXI i really dont think i can/should go through the whole list, if you see/hear a word on the game that you dont know just ask someone there what it is an means, and if you dont completely understand ask me and i'll see what i can do!

You have to be lvl 18 to do subjob quest, you do it in valkrum dunes, you need to get 3 items dropped off certain mobs, you need a crab apron thats dropped off crabs, a magiked skull which are dropped off skeletons at night and dameslfly worm (or something like that) dropped off dameslflys. when you get these items you trade it to a guy in selbina (a town inside valkrum dunes) When you areound lvl 14-18 you will be fighting those mobs, so make sure to get those items when thay drop, and when you do just ask a person in your pt where the guy in selbina is (he should be at the "bottom" of town near the water on the right side) and once you traded those items to him you can now "equip" a subjob. The level of your subjob is always half that of your main, so the highest lvl your sub job will be is 37 because your main can only go to 75, you can train your sub all they way to 75 but as long as it is subbed it will always be half your main. Also any abilities and traits you would gain between lvl 1-37 of your subjob you can use, for example if you lvled DRK to lvl 10 and you subed WAR, your sub lvl is 5 and WARs get provoke at lvl 5 so you can now use provoke. hope this was somewhat helpful XD

You Helpin me a lot dude ^_^ . Someone told me in game that when i have like 12 crystal that i can stack them and sell them at a higher price than a simple crystal. i didnt really understand that , cause i found 10 Wind Crystal and 6 Earth Crystal and i did go to the Auction House like you told me and did put them to sell for 5000 gil each but no one bought it so i think 5k its a little expensive for a simple crystal , do you know how much should i sell them? and if you can tell me some ways to make money , thats my major problem for the moment on FFXI , i only have like 300 gil and i dont know how to get much do you know a good way ? when i said sell the crystals for 5000 gil i meant as stacks, sorry if i confused you there, you want to sell stacks of crystals, and you sell 1 crystal for about 300 gil. One way to check how much you sell something for or how much you might want to buy something for is when you go to the AH go to the item you want and click on it, now instead of placing bid go to the tab that ses "price history" and that gives you the range of how much you should sell it for/buy it for. As for making money, right now just sell stacks of crystals while you train, when you get to about lvl 10-12 go to either sandy or windy to fish, (i dont know any good fishing spots in Basty) make sure you have about 3k to spend, buy 1 or two cheap fishing rods that cost about 500 gil each, then buy insect ball for bait (buy the bait buy the stack, they should cost about 1k each) in Wndusrt fish at the fountain and sell stacks of moat carps for about 7-8k, in sany go to west ronfaure and fish at the pond around G-9 and sell your stacks of moat carps for the same price, so thats 2 places where you could fish, if you fish for about a week straight or so you could make about 400k. when you get more gil, buy more bait so you have about 5 stacks with you while fishing.

Best peice of advice i can give now, find a LS, a nice big one with people willing to give you help. More than anything, More important than having good gear or skillz, is having a fountain of overflowing knowledge ^_^

i've found that most ls's actually LIKE having the newbs around, it's fun to show off by helping them out.

once you get a few levels higher, someone is sure to offer you a pearl. if you want, you can even post "Looking for a good ls" in your search/bazaar comment.
