My favorite FF game was FF6 for the SNES... man that was just such an awesome game. I'm not sure if anything can come close.

Have you tried Chrono Trigger? It's a different flavor, but it should give any SNES era RPG a run for its money.

If you do end up trying FFXI(I can't really recommend it in good faith) you should definitely go for the PC version.

ya Chrono Trigger is another one of my all time favorites. I place Chrono Trigger and FF6 on some higher echelon that very few games even approach.

I also played Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2), Secret of Evermore and tons of other NES/SNES games.

I caught up on the discussion going on in this thread. I apologize if I hi-jacked it. That was not my intention.

I just had a suggestion for something you guys were discussing earlier. Way back in the day I had a dualshock2-usb adapter and it worked well but I destroyed the thing for a school project a few years ago. (electrical engineering)...

anyway, now I have a ps3 controller. Rumor has it, this is easy to use on a windows pc via bluetooth (or usb, I would assume). I'm going to google it now.

Another option is the wii classic controller via wii-remote and bluetooth which I know works well.

I just have this feeling FF11 was something awesome I missed out on. I disliked some of the newer FF games because of their settings/story etc. while ff11 seems to appeal to me.

How long did it take to get the 14 day trial set up and running on the pc?

One really big downside to these MMO games, is that if you miss them its hard to play them later, or the experience is not as good as when they initially came out due to lack of support/users etc.

Its quite easy to go back and enjoy older classics you missed out on that are not MMO's but its a different story when it comes to things like this (FF11)

It took me roughly 10 hours, as it downloads the whole Original FFXI (not including addons etc)

Took me bout 2 hours to figure out what the heck I was doing and sort out the settings xD

Even though this game is 9? years old, I'm quite loving it ^^

On the Realm I'm on, now I'm not a Trial, I see quite alot of people, when I was on trial I had ppl grouping with me for the first 6 levels or so

So it's all good, I deffo recommend you come and try it ^^

When you jumped up to the full version from the trial was it just a matter of updating your account or did you have to redownload a different client etc.?

No problem

Yeah had to add the code to my account then download it all over again. Went with the Steam one. Think it only took about 4 and half hours to redownload FFXI and all it's expacks and addons

Hmm, It might be better for me to just go and download the Steam version... Its 20$ and comes with 30 days worth of play. Bandwidth for me is an issue since I only get so much with my isp. (they recently upped all the prices). So the 14 day trial might not really be free for me and given the download time/bandwidth usage etc. I might as well just grab the version from steam.

I have never used Steam before, what other options are out there? I am really out of the loop when it comes to PC games. I could never keep up financially with PC games cause my hardware always lagged behind. Brings back memories of Quake 1/2 and Warcraft 2 when I was younger.

Thanks - I decided I'm going to try playing this on my macbook pro so I just installed windows 7 X64 via bootcamp and downloaded steam... Now for downloading the game! I probably won't be able to play until tomorrow, I guess.

When you buy a game off of steam, can you redownload it for free onto another PC later.. i.e. if i get a new computer etc?

Hmm, I purchased the game via steam. It downloaded properly and it says the game is ready to play but when I click the "Play" button it gives an error saying:

"Failed to contact key server"

I did a google search and opened a ticket with Steam support; however based on my google search it seems this means that Steam does not have any license keys available for the product.. Which makes me wonder why they sold it to me in the first place.??

Did you make an SE account? Because XI is now linked and managed through that account, rather than the Playonline viewer. They probably just haven't updated it yet.
