Returning to ffxi with new account~

Hello!~ I've just freshly returned to ffxi for the first time in about a year. =) Nice to meet you all. =) However I am having some difficulty catching up to the high level players of today. :/ I managed to get to level 50 using GoV parties with little difficulty, but have now run into a new problem. I need to break cap to level 55 and it seems that no one is willing to do anything to help out returning players. I shout in cities, ask members in my GoV groups and no matter how hard I try no one seems willing to help returning/new players. Was it a mistake to come back? :'( I am on Bahamut server if anyone wants to make a new friend and plays there. =)

I don't know of anyone on Bahamut, so I can't help you there. Do you have a Linkshell? If so and no one will help, then you should probably find a new linkshell. If not, try shouting for a Linkshell and then asking for help from within. That would probably be better than shouting for help. I know I am more likely to help someone in my shell than someone shouting (though I may help them too).
