I'm just going to ask a very basic question. Should a new player even considering joining this game this late in its career? I mean, is it fathomable? I want to start this game, but i don't know if i could do it with it being so late.
I'll say this:
Back during the server merge, my character was lost somehow. Mind you, I had Sandy Rank 10, Nyzul Isle Floor 100 complete, Zilart, CoP, ToAU....done... 11 jobs at 75.
I didn't get back on with my character until August of this year, and even then, the best SE was able to do was roll her back to a recent date. So only job I had at 75 was RNG and DRG. Nation Rank is 6, Nyzul Isle up to FLoor 20 complete, CoP: Three Paths... Basically, I had to play catchup.
It became difficult to try to get all those things back. While I would like to have them again, there is no morale to do so (which is why I only care for two jobs, NIN and COR).
What I'm saying is, losing all that content has caused a burden, but I still wanted to play the game regardless. I am just missing a ton of content that I wish I still had (Leaden Salute me, please ).
If you can deal with "Catching Up", then by all means, go for it. Just note, though, that things move so fast for a while that you might feel obligated to dedicating your life to the game.

I think the bigger issue isn't so much that there's no sense of accomplishment now, but the fact that it's possible to get to the cap without having a clue how a party should operate. I could be wrong here, it's no secret I haven't played in forever. I'm mostly going off of reading that you can solo 1-30 with ease and then leech your way up to 90 in a matter of hours, excluding limit breaks.
As a veteran player I can say that if I ever came back I don't even want to level up any more. I'd rather have fully capped jobs handed to me and jump straight to the content. The less time I need to spend on grinding, the better.
The sentence I highlighted in bold, is the exact reason why I only have NIN and COR at 95. Well, THF is 94 from 90, but that was due to an actual linkshell event across a 9-hour spam of NMs and such.
I don't need a million jobs. Just the necessary jobs for accessing the content that makes me smile.
