CoP is one the most memorable things I've ever done in FFXI, and I'll never forget all the hurdles me and my linkshell jumped through to make it to the end. But you know what? It was still badly designed and took too long to do. If they had the kept the zone caps but instead drastically reduced the timesinks involved, I'd still have fond memories but would waste much less time. Your point doesn't hold water because wasting more time on something doesn't always result in social behavior. I blew hours camping Leaping Lizzie alone and what did I get out of it? Even if I had gotten the boots, I didn't spend time with anyone or make fond memories. Instead I just hate Gustaberg, and I wouldn't feel very accomplished just for having masochistic levels of patience.

Heh.... I still remember camping O-Kotes for hours upon hours a day. Filling my inv 4 times over (When it was nearly empty. Had just the armor and weapon taking up space with 60 slots.). Had fun chatting with my LS the entire time. And at night when no one was on, I would be watching TV, or fooling around with other forums and such. I enjoy certain time sinks, when they allow you to have time to do other stuff, but they could increase the drop rates of stuff.

See, but if it wasn't a time sink, they you could accomplish your goal and then do those other things anyway with all of your free time.

Honestly... FFXI endgame was extremely boring IMHO.

I enjoyed the hike up to level 75, and taking my time. Camping NMs to get gear that didn't require hours just to wait, and compete with 75 other linkshells, and then compete with your own linkshell to have a very slim chance to get the item even if it dropped. Dienamis was boring as hell. It was too slow.

I LIKED going around and helping my linkshell. I ENJOYED doing low level contend such as the outpost fights, and the BCNM missions.

That said, I get it. Those things weren't fun for you. You enjoyed other stuff. I'm not trying to sell you on FFXI. You played it. Eventually stopped enjoying yourself, and that's that.

I will say, however that Abyssea and the other changes that have been made have honestly opened things up SO much. No longer does it take 8 years to get things done. You don't spend countless hours camping NMs or sludging in an alliance through Dynamis for the bajilliontyth time. You get in, get your shit done, and move on to something else.

I understand that, but I was just giving examples of random endgame off the top of my headed. The only endgame I found remotely any fun was Nyzule Isle.

What was it about endgame that you didn't like? What rewards did EXP parties and BCNMS offer that you couldn't get in endgame?

Was it the more reward for less work aspect? The chance to do things with a smaller group? The less time spent doing things you don't like and more doing what you did?

Tak, we get it... you have peeves with the game... but there's a thread for that. This guys "should I come back to the game" thread isnt the place to hash those out.

Murph, I'm not sure how many more ways you can say "Agree to disagree" without saying "Agree to disagree".

This whole thing might have blown over a lot faster if either one of you could keep yourselves from writing "I get where you're coming from.... BUT!"

This poor guy hasn't even posted in his own thread in 3 pages. Incorrect. I just noticed it's not the person's thread I thought it was. But still... this is derailed a bit more in the realm of a peeve vs anti-peeve.

What I did not like about it was because it didn't feel like I was making any progress at all. Once I hit max level, I enjoy spending my time helping others, rather than doing end game. I only enjoy end game if I am helping others, rather than doing it for my self.

Yyg - You're not my dad*. And I wasn't going the "agree to disagree" route, but rather trying to provide a counterpoint to the "Man, fast EXP sucks you guys! Also, FFXI in general is no fun outside of EXP parties" POV.

Ace here, and man my thread became a brewery. This is fine, im in-game now and enjoying it quite well. I have great friends, a wonderful linkshell and all the kittys i can pet ^-^ just the pantless hume female *cough*Zenda*cough* is the only thing that has me baffled but im loving the game! The fast exp is astonishing to me but i dont have a problem i dont geuss, have to skill up skills after all which will take plenty of time
