Hey there - I've been casting about for an MMO to play while I wait for GW2, and I'm really (really) burnt out on WoW and its clones (Rift is great, but its WoW+).
Consequently, my eye turned to FFXI, as I remember the story being consistently praised, and from what I had read, a lot of the pain in the game was removed in the last year or so.
I'm looking for a LS that actually groups with its new players, rather than just pointing them at the next area to solo grind - I really don't want to level solo to cap. Even grinding with a teammate or two is preferable to staring at autoattack and the occasional spell for hours on end.
It's also frustrating to ask questions and be constantly pointed at the wiki - the wiki is great if you know what you are looking for, but that isn't always the case, and often even if you do, the sheer amount of data is simply overwhelming.
Are there any such Linkshells that are active and welcoming to new players? I have a character on Quetzl, but I'd be happy to remake on another server simply to join an active community.
edit: I should say my primary interest and focus would be tackling all the main mission/story content in order for each campaign. I know there are a billion other things to do, but that's the main reason I want to get into the game!
