    FFXI - current population

    Hello, FFXI online community, my name is Guy Gamer.
    I see some new and returning players are commenting in these forums, and I am glad to see some activity for FFXI. I played the 30-day free trial in 2008 or 2009, but lost my account information.
    However: I was wondering about a certain, little thing. I have looked around the first page of "FFXI New Player Resources" and wondered: How populated is FFXI at the moment? I am intrested in returning to FFXI by buying "Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection - Abyssea Edition" from Steam (Since I lost my original account information, and this version comes with the latest DLC, it's a Win-Win).

    TL;DR: How populated is FFXI? Especially with servers like Cerberus, Sylph, and Valefor.

      I don't really have a number for you, but I would say Cerb is just right...

          Doesn't have to be a number, or should I say that I rather NOT HAVE a number. But, if let's say I started the game right now: Would I see some people running around and doing their own things and/or socialising with others?

          What I am trying to say is: does the game feel empty, or does it feel like there's people here and there. A picture of a more populated area(s), or starting cities with people, would be nice.

            The game doesn't feel empty. Hell, half the time when I'm trying to do shit, everything's overcrowded.

                  Just started playing again. man i missed this game. f u wow. lol jk. Im looking for a good server to start back up on. Couldnt restore my old characters so have to start fresh again. The current server im on is just too dead. im hoping i just picked a low pop server or something. its impossible to find any groups for anything. iv been able to meet a few people to two man some stuff with but thats about it. looking to go the whole "99" yards and all and want to see all the content. If anyone could suggest a good server that would be great. Thanks.

                    Well I recently joint the game on Valefor, got into a really nice ls, but even without their help, I've had a good amount of people willing to help me =)

                      I know i just rejoined the game myself today actually, my second account since i started back in the fall of 03 >.>; used to be a little taru by the name of Styx on Pandemonium(sp) now i'm an elvaan by the name of Oniwabanshu on Asura. population seems to be fine on on asura @ 1300 MDT (-7UCT) had around 1700 peeps

                        Well traditional experience groups are gone for the most part, unless you find some close friends that are wanting to go that route; generally you join an alliance doing "Grounds of Valor" (GoV) pages at Gusgen Mines, Crawler's Nest, Garlaige Citadel, Bostaunieux Oubliette, and so forth. Generally you solo to about your low-mid teens (at least 10) and then you go from one of these locations to the next--I have no played FFXI in a few months so there might be some new camps that people use nowadays. More or less, people are going this route followed by Abyssea in their high 60's/70's depending your class. There are some that even go earlier, but this is unlikely for a new player to accomplish without some assistance.

                        I had (still have) a character on Valefor, but I am unsubbed atm.

                          I joined about a month ago after posting on these forums etc. I found many people to help and am in a couple great Linkshells. I'm on Valefor as are quite a few people from these forms as well.
