Hi, Newbie help please :)

Good Morning all

Could anyone help me out please? I last played this game around 2 - 3 years ago and only managed to get to level 15 or so. And had to stop playing due to family problems (boring stuff) im now looking for a solid MMORPG to play. and since I dont have a good enough laptop to play FFXIV and i have an xbox this is the one for me! :D

(I will hopefully be able to recover my characer, i'll phone playonline today at some point but its probably been deleted)

I had the bargain of the year with this game yesterday i bought the xbox 360 edition with the first 3 expansion packs for £0.50!! I just need to find a copy of wings of goddess for the xbox now. So if anyone has a copy for sale or knows where i can buy one that would be another big help.

Could anyone tell me a server that is populated and possibly kind to newbies?

And if anyone could help me out in game and shop me the ropes it would be greatly appriciated.

I am GMT and im planning to be on quite a lot over the next few weeks and hopefully become a regular in the online world of FFXI.

I don't think any servers are particularly friendly or unfriendly towards new folk, it's more a matter of finding a good linkshell.

Ahh fantastic thank you, ive tried amazon, ebay, play.com all uk based places since my copy is PAL and ive had no joy.


Hopefully il have some luck and find a nice linkshell!

what about a very populated server? Know of any that would be good to join?

Assuming the codes in that one have already been used, you'll need to recover your account/character anyhow. (If not, then you can still use the code to register everything before Abyssea.) If you had any of the codes or credit card numbers you used before, they should be able to get you going. Even without it, there's still a good chance.

As for servers, if you're recovering your character, it'll already be decided. It costs money ($25 US) to transfer. But if you have a choice, it's probably good to get on one of the servers that got merged a year or so ago.

And be warned that the 360 version is the least stable of the three. Yes, the PS2 version is actually a bit more stable than the 360 version.

I managed to get it working last night, none of the codes were used before so it worked out great and i now have a 30 day trial!

I have a level 5 hulme warrior on the Asura server called "Restyle" so if anyone wants to give me a hand or show me the ropes i would appriciate it!

when you get charged does it automatically take it from your bank account or do you have to remember to pay each month?

And also when i first installed the game and tried to go online there was a 3.1gb update. Does that include the wings of goddess expansion pack so all i need to do is buy a code to activate it?

Or do i need to hunt down a copy of the disc and install it to my hard drive? (its very rare in the uk now)

It is automatically taken from your bank account.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the update was just the standard update of everything that's piled up over the years. If you haven't hunted down the expansion it's probably not on your machine yet. However I play on PC so if one of our console players knows differently then listen to them instead.

At this stage of the game though I'd recommend jumping in on the PC, if for no other reason than you can get all the expansions and most of the add-ons for $5 on Steam rather than hunting down rare and expensive discs for the console versions.

Ahh thanks for the answer.

I would do that but my laptop isnt very good and even though its only 3 years old or so it doesnt have a graphics card built in. Its got a celeron duel core processor and 2gb of ram but no graphics card only the built in one, so i dont think it would work very well.

Thats why im on the xbox i can play it on my 40" with my little chat pad while relaxing on the couch :D

Its just someone told me online last night that the update will be the expansion so that i can see all of the data but i cant do the quests or go to the areas. But im apparently able to see and use items and weapons?

If thats the case i should just be able to buy a license code through play online? But im not sure if thats true. I mean it does have the first 3 expansions and 3.1gb is massive just for an update. but im not sure

Never heard of bank account payment, but you're in the UK.

Anyhow, standard procedure for SE is to bill you at the end of your first month, and the start of all further months. So your first bill (and your first after being away for a few months) should be for 2 months. Do NOT think it's a double bill and do a chargeback, or you get banninated.

Also, the first month after the trial month, I think you get billed for a full (non-prorated) month, so it's best to start early in the month... which you have done.
