Hey guys, Um just gotta few things before i go and buy this... Ok so i use to play ffxi like back when it first came out on the ps2, so long ago... but anyways just gotta job with xbox live tech support so im gonna be coop'd up in a at home office all day and they're sending me a xbox... but anyways my question is ok i just read theres ffxiv out now... thats all dandy and stuff but i dont want to go and get a nicer pc to play games on my pc. So im stuck with xbox platform. So anyways i was just wondering are people still playing this? will i have trouble finding low level parties? i dont want to play wow lol and i really liked this game back when it came out. i had like a lvl 62 sam... i heard i can get my account back but i kinda wanna start fresh... anyways so the questions are. Do people still play this regularly? Low lvl parties a problem? and what effect does ffxiv have on this?

Having played for a couple years myself, it's really not that new player friendly anymore. Dunes can be vacant for hours on end. I have been looking sometime now /sea all when I log in. On shiva, there is usually about 1000 +/- people online. I would say upwards of 150 of these people are AFK bazaars. when I do a check, usually of these 1000 people, 200 are less than 75. Prices for gear have dropped dramatacially, it really has changed since the level cap rose. That being said, in my main linkshell, there are 3 new players that have been on constanstly lately, and always seem to be lfp. If you do decide to join up, I can give you a pearl if you join the Shiva server.

it's really not that new player friendly anymore.

There are fewer newbies, but I think the game became far more friendlier to the new players over the years. Specifically, the players are now given a lot of assistance for leveling up:

- Fields of Valor
- Signet boost (defense boost, plus bonus exp for grouping of 2-5 people)
- Empress/Emperor Band
- Tutorial NPCs
- Level Sync

The cheaper low level gear on AH can only help, too, along with the increase in crystal prices.

ok, I suppose I should clarify. The game is newer player friendly, but the community playing is not new player friendly. There is so much stuff that needs to be done, for the game to be fun for new people, imo. People, at least on Shiva, are to busy to help with new people. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, people have their own stuff to do. I try and help where I can, but we all have goals we wanna work toward. I've still got 0 expansions completed, heck I am only Rank 8 in my own nation. Trying to find enough people to complete even mid-missions for zilart, wog, cop etc, is like pulling teeth. i can just imagine how much of a pain in the ass it would be to find early help. I heard a shout from a guy willing to pay 10K for help on the nation mission 2-3, the dragon fight. I know 10K is not much for a vet, but it was decent for a newbie. When I asked why he would need to pay some one, he told me had been stuck on the mission so long, that since no one was willing to help, he was sick of waiting. I told him to keep the money and we duo'ed it. In any regard, yes, the game has added new-player friendly aspects, but all in all, partying has gone the way of the dinosaur, virtually extinct.
