I just bought the Ultimate Collection for the xbox. I know the population is not nearly as high as it used to be. Are people still going to be playing FFXI when FFXIV comes out? Is soloing a long shot depending on the job you pick? Is it extremely rare to get a group? I want to be able to play with people sometimes. I would have to think that most people that play are level cap. Any servers that have a higher population for American players? Thanks for your help

Game is alive and healthy. Pick a server that was recently merged for higher population. FFXIV is not going to threaten the well-being of FFXI.

I havent seen anything on servers that have merged. Would someone tell me where I could find that out or tell me of a few. It would be appreciated.

FFXIV is not going to threaten the well-being of FFXI.

I'm curious how you arrive at this conclusion. Especially considering the recent quote from Hiromichi Tanaka.

HT: Because Final Fantasy XI has been out for eight years, it has passed its peak. So, XIV, we want it to be the next mainstream MMO for our company, and it's very important to us.

HT: Since FFXI has been out of eight years, we think it's reached its time now, so obviously we would want FFXI players to shift to FFXIV. However, we do understand if FFXI players have special memories of FFXI, so there must be some people who will continue to play FFXI. So, we would like to keep of them happy, and we will try to introduce some bonus for our customers, probably from a monetary point of view.

Well for starters it's in the company's best interest to keep FFXI afloat from a profit standpoint. Then there's the fact that from everything I've heard(not being in the beta myself), FFXIV has a very different design structure than FFXI.

Also FFXI is that abusive lover we all keep crawling back to.

For a pure profit standpoint, it's cheaper to move everyone over to FFXIV and shut down FFXI instead of having to maintain both.

As for the players, the whining about FFXI's graphics alone makes me believe that most will jump ship just because FFXIV is shiny and pretty.

I ended up choosing Quetzelcoatl or however its spelled. Im thinking of going Thief/war until i get to about 40. After that i was thinking of Ranger/Thief. Would that be a good damage dealing combination? I was also thinking of War/Monk until 40 then Paladin/War so i would be able to tank if it was needed. Any insight would be helpful, thank you .
