  • Soon to be Newbie

    Hi there FF11 fans~

My name is Kuin, and it's nice to meet you. :D

I'll be purchasing Final Fantasy 11 from Steam later, and it comes with a Free month, so I'll play for at least that amount of time. I really want to play Final Fantasy 11 simply because I'm a huge fan of the series and I've always wanted to play it.

Now I just have a quick question.

Which server should I join? From what I see on the forums, there are a TON of servers, and I'd like to avoid over/under populated servers. I don't want to get overwhelmed by an overpopulated server, but I'd rather not have a problem finding a party in an underpopulated server (I've heard that partying is important in this game -- that's a good thing).

Also, on a side note. Would anyone want to add me to their friend's list? I don't want any free items or anything, just someone to talk to since being all alone when you start an MMO sucks. I don't know a SOUL that plays Final Fantasy 11, so I thought I'd post here.

Oh, and for a final note, I'm thinking about starting out as a Warrior Hume (for the sword, as I've read to do) and then switching to a Red Mage. Is that a bad idea or what?

Thanks in advance for any help! :D

    Re: Soon to be Newbie

Almost all servers will soon be at a decent amount of people. So choose what ever server suits you best. I chose my server, because its my middle name. XD

As for a warrior, don't go with a sword. Once you hit level 5, invest in a great axe, you will deal TONS more damage. Or, if you want, toss the sword, and invest in a regular axe as quickly as possible.

The reason behind this is because a warriors sword skill is not as high as a Great Axe, or Axe. Also, swords deal less damage per swing, but more damage per second. The Great Axe deals tons of damager per swing, but less per second. Having the great axe also means you will deal more damage to heavier defense monsters such as crabs (Which you will need in the dunes.).

Also, welcome to the forums, and FFXI. Hope you enjoy your stay!

I'd give it an "or what".

Tak's advice is solid, but you should romp around without too much concern while you're still young to the game and enjoy oddball setups before you get bogged down too much with min/maxing.

I think he means he is going to start off as war for the Sword then switch to rdm so he can use it on that job. Which would make sense seeing as that is RDM's primary weapon. But always double check wiki and see which job has better A and B rankings in that weapon to see the best results.

I understood what he was saying, but I was letting him know that he should use a Great Axe on Warrior over a sword. Red Mage can also skill up fairly fast solo if you know where to go, and how to do so.

            Re: Soon to be Newbie

I noticed some discussion on 4chan /v/ about the Steam special. They were saying "we're thinking Asura or Sylph", and the one bit of advice that kept coming up was "anywhere but Asura". Even someone else in my linkshell confirmed that Asura is full of assholes. Apparently some wiseguys on Asura created new characters with the same names as ones on Pandy (which is merging to Asura) and were trying to blackmail them for like 2m gil a name.

SE has finally closed all (?) 16 of the merging servers to new characters until the merge, but I'm sure that's not the only instance of this happening, just the most blatant.

Also, advice on the free month: SE likes to bill at the start of the month, so those "30 free days" are 30 days if you cancel, but if you don't, I don't think they pro-rate the remaining partial month. So it might be best for a few reasons if you wait until April 1 or 2 to start.

            * Server merge will be done (you can choose any server)
            * Update will be finished (the initial all-day update is bad enough, but you will miss the few hours downloading this month's update too)
            * You will get the most of your free month

Also, don't freak if their first billing is for two months, especially after a reactivation. When you reactivate, at the end of whatever month you restart, they bill for both the restart month and the next month. And whatever you do, don't chargeback on your card or you will get permabanned.
