  • trying to cancel JP account

My son (with my knowledge) got a Japanese account through playonline Japan. This was years ago. We can't cancel the account, no matter what we do. Every month we are charged about $15.
We have tried: calling, emails, faxes, and changing our credit card number.
We DO NOT have his ID or password. So we can't log in and cancel.

    Any thoughts?

Re: trying to cancel JP account

Best to do right now at least, would be to prevent SE to take money from your bank account, just call your bank (or go there?) and tell them what is happening.

Getting the ID and Password is essential to cancel the account. Some folks made Japanese accounts back in the day when the game wasn't yet available in the rest of the world, in order to do that these people ( counting your son ) used fake information unless they were residing in Japan, information like street address and such which is required as confirmation to obtain your lost ID/Password, unless he remembers that information they will never give you the ID or password, unless they personally say otherwise if you call them or by talking to them on the chat line, I'd recommend the latter first unless you have time and patience to wait in line on the phone.

I actually managed to fix something like this for a friend of mine, similar situation only it was a US account that he registered while residing in Kuwait, equally tricky but all they needed was a fax containing some personal information. Can't be trickier than a third party obtaining info for someone who registered in a country outside of the service, can it? Just keep trying and meanwhile alert your bank of what is happening, you're just throwing money away this way.

To be honest, asking the bank to block incoming bills is more than enough, I believe. But beware that if you ever re-allow SE to charge you on that account it might be tricky to circumvent the fact that your account isn't actually canceled, thus they might demand the money you haven't been paying all along if you ever decide to play the game on that ID again... I dunno.

Keep trying, they're a provider for a common service after all.
