Dunes at 10?

    =P Thanks for all the replies. I have another question.

    I plan to take my girl into the Dunes or at least the surrounding area when we get to around 13 on our main jobs (WAR and WHM). Should we sit with all the other people LFGing and just have me shouting that we're a package deal, or try to form our own group? I have no experience leading in FFXI (or any MMO, really.. I'm pretty shy around people I don't know).

    If I did try to scrounge up the group, given our jobs, what would be an ideal setup for the other 4 people, and at what levels should we go to each camp in the zone?

      Form the group would be better because you have a tank and healer already and thats half the battle when forming a party, just fill in the gaps with a backup healer and 2 DD, maybe a 2nd voker to help you tank so you can bounce hate between the two of you. (a tank in the dunes at this level doesnt really have the tools to take a lot of hits tbh so any melee/war could help with the tanking) A ninja at 12 with utsemi and you as backup voker would work great.

      12-14 is lizzys and the occasional goblin if the party works well.

      14-16/17 its crabs through the tunnel just after the area with the trees on the left side just be careful of the goblins are they will tear you apart at this level.

      At 17 probably moving to the oasis, little area with trees with some leeches and crabs about half way between the outpost and the crab camp, targets are flys watch there AOE cursed sphere can hurt if you go there early and there poison ws. Sheep suck due to AOE sleep which is a pain at this level, once your 18-19 you can start to target the higher gobs if the parties good.

      Thinks its around 20 you can start on pugs but there not nice mobs imo they have an eva and def up move and screwdriver hurts a lot if it critical hits, can one shot a mage if there not careful with there hate, most people just go to qifim island at 20 and start on the land worms there

      (hope this is right lol, its been a while since I actually partied in the dunes, I normally solo/duo to 20 or even higher sometimes)

        To let others knnow that you are in a group together, and you aren't fightin togeth, just put in your seacome...

        Partner Whm (Is this is you.) Partner War (For your GF.)

        To get to that go to... Meu -> Search -> Edit Comment -> Seek Party

        As for what Revrent Knight said, he is correct, but I'd like to add soemthing.

        Sheep, they aren't that bad if you know how to deal with sleep. Get Barsleepra up, and make sure your healer(s), and mage(s), are out side of sleep range. If the sheep uses sheep song, healer cures teh Tank, Tank vokes, and the mages start using cure 1 on the others that are asleep. It isn't so bad if you know how to deal with it. Its also good practice for healers when you head to Kazham.

        At 13, you can head to the Oasis. Target Crabs only from 13-14. Once you are 14, you can take on Flys, if your party is good, and make sure Barwatera is up all the time (It will lower Cursed Sphere damage, and lower the duration of Poison, as well as possibly allow you to resist it completly.) If you don't think you can take on flys at 14, wait until 15.

        When you turn 16, you can stay there and fight gobs/Flys. When you fight a goblin, make sue brarfira is up to lower the AoE damage of bomb toss (Some goblins will literally spamm this skill), stay away from goblin leechers as they have a tendancy to spam Cure III, which recovers 160 (?) Hp, which will make the battle lost longer, unless the whm, or the Rdm can cast silence. The same goes for Goblin Tinkeres, and Goblin Shaman? (They are Blm, I cant remember the names.) The Blm goblins are a pain with their Blaze Spikes, and AoE spams.

        Another place to go to when you are 16 is the hidden beach. At 17, the targets will be Goblins, Flys, Crabs, and Pugils. If you don't know where the Hidden Beach is, just ask some one in the party. they should know about it. The issue about this camp though, is that there is usually a party here with a power leveler killing everything there.

        The other alternitive is the Pug Camp(s). there is one to the left, and one to the right of Sebina. The one with the boat is preffered by most people though. The mages will usually stand on the boat. It is a good idea to have a back up tank as long as a back up healer here. The targets are usually Goblins, and Pugils. Make sure that Barwatera is up when figthing Pugils. They have a mean AoE attack. This camp usually lasts 17-20.

        The best tanks for the dunes are... Warrior, Pld, Blu/War, and Ninja. Blu is on the list because they have Cocoon, and defense boosts at this level, and their defense his much higher than a plds at this level. They can even dish out more damage than a pld allowing them to keep hate better than a pld.

        Most peopel stay in teh dunes until level 19, and go to qufim island. You can head there at level 18 as well, but 19-20 is the prefered level to go there.

              An yea. Pugils aren't THAT bad if you know how to deal with them. The only monster that I have ever been one shotted by was a Doom Scorpion, and it was Using Death Scissors (1.5k Damage >.<, but that doesnt include Drk Orc {Mega Boss} in campaing Battales. 5.6k Damage >.< ).

              Two Nins can tank a Pugil fairly easy. Both Start with Utsusemi, before all of teh shadows of the first one goes down, they put them back up, then when they all fall, the second nin vokes, and it just repeats.

                The problem with blink tanking a pugil, besides their Evasion/Defense buffs, is that they can Slow you. At those levels there's not much you can do about it.

                  That is true. If you could some how resist slow, then there shouldn't really be much of an issue, but if you are slowed then... You are in trouble. It isn't so bad to do blink tanking though as long as you know what you are doing, and have some one that can tank a decent amount of damage to voke as well incase you lose all your shadows, and your patner is still on CD.

                    Pugs are are bad cause whenever I've parited on them in the dunes the 1 second the tank lost hate is the one second before screwdriver fires and the whm gets 1 shotted. Id rather go fight squishy worms in korrolka tunnel or qifim island at 19-20

                      The reason whm gets one shotted int eh dunes is when they use two of the Hp-25 Rings. Those things kill whms. I never got one shotted on my whm in the dunes. I would NEVER use those rings at the dunes level as well. They just get the healer killed. I'd rather just get mind or int rings for nukes, or stronger heals when in the dunes.

                      I would never have hp - stuff when the tank cant hold hate. I love fighting the pugs, its challenging at times, and thats how the game should be (Challenging, not hard.)

                        A party I was in last night went from happily murdering IT gobs and flys at the oasis with a pl which was overkill imo. Leader then decides at 16 it we should be killing pugs. I'm against it as a squishy blm but whatever I'm not leader and no one listens to people that know what there talking about anyway.

                        (to prove the point the leader tried to give me sushi to help out as a blm. I lold and told him wtf use is sushi to a blm when I'm not gonna be hitting the mob) so the pl leaves as we change camp to do a ls event. They still go ahead and pull a pug, party was blm rdm pld sam war thf i think (yes no whm) . to be fair we didnt die but it wasnt pleasant watchin everyone drop to yellow very fast and having cure as my only means of helping, we didnt fight a pug again.

                          So my girl and I went from 10-14 in the dunes last night, and things went a lot faster with us just duoing. Where would a 14 WHM/BLM and WAR go to duo?

                            14 War and Whm duo would be fairly good against Lizards in the dunes I guess, or possibly head out to Konschat highlands and select page 3(?) from the FoV and kill the mobs it says. (I don't have the wiki open atm, and don't feel liek checking the page lol)

                              You can make fast (for duo) killin everything in the windmill area in the highlands till 15-16 then move to the dunes at 16 and you can kill all the lizzys, think there em-dc, then move up to goblins when they check EM+. Think thats around 17 for the rng drks and 18 for the butchers
