Yep, Gusgen Mines is located pretty much due east of the Crag of Dem in Konstacht Highlands, which is the area you are exping in at the moment from the sounds of it
One thing that I would recommend you do is the Fields of Valor (FoV), one of which is located next to the teleport crystal at the crag of Dem and will offer you both gil and exp rewards as well as tags which will let you have buffs like protect and shell etc and even teleport you back to Bastok.
That said, another thing you could/should do is speak to the gate guard at any of the exits from Bastok and do a supplies run. You will be presented with a list of areas that Bastok currently control and you can choose where you want to run. The first semi-useful one is North Gustaberg outpost (OP) but a very useful one is Valkurm (Zulkheim (sp?)) OP. When you deliver the supplies to the guard (I.M.) there you will be able to speak to the merchant next to them and for a small fee they will tele you back to Bastok. Likewise Conrad in Bastok Markets will be able to teleport you to that outpost from Bastok. I've found this invaluable and before you get tabs for FoV, which is only one way, it means more exp time for sure!
The map you need to check for the control of areas is under menu>region info>conquest and it will show you with a Bastok icon which areas are controlled but atm i think it's best to look out for Zulkheim to get you back and forth to Valkurm without having to look for a tele-Dem and run it esp thru the tunnel where bats will sound aggro you.
