  • Newbie Help

Ok, I'm on the Kujata server.

I'm playing as a Human Warrior named Boheda that started off in Bastok, and I'm currently level 18. My main issue is my equipment sucks. I've got a great axe, just recently saved up from selling crystals and got a Moth Axe, which is the best Great Axe that was available for my level in the market, but everything else I'm wearing is pretty low-level.

The issue I'm having is mostly that there isn't really any decent equipment in the AH for sale usually. I don't know if the server is bad or if I'm just unlucky and other people are buying it out, but whenever I have some Gil to spend to upgrade my gear, there's nothing available.

The last issue I'm having is with leveling. It's taking ridiculously long, and I'm currently only playing once a day, when I use my Conquest Point Ring (got an Empress one originally, ran out of charges so ditched it and got an Emperor one) to maximize experience. The leveling issue I have is that since I can't get any decent equipment or find a group (I don't even know how to talk to people with the XBox 360 controller but never see anyone in the zones I'm in anyways), so I'm always fighting and killing stuff that's very easy.

What I wanted to do (other than vent a little), was ask if anyone plays on Kujata and was willing to help me level, or if they had any tips for leveling a little quicker (I'm currently farming the area south of Valkurm Dunes and some swamp. It's full of Mist Lizards, Goblins, and sheep), or at the least knew of a decent Linkshell I could get into so I could ask for tips or have someone to talk too while grinding.
My character's name is Cadar on Cerberus.

First, most gear around level 18~20 is going to be found in Jeuno, with San d'oria probably coming in second there. You might want to go on a road trip.

    Second, get a keyboard.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

I agree with Mhurron here. Level 18-20 gear is quite a pain to get hold of if you don't know anyone that could help you out really, due to long walks to either Jeuno or Sand d'oria. Now i have no idea of Bastok conquest items but if you have enough points, you should be able to get some better gear without spending any gil. I know sandy has lv 10 and 20 gear for most dd jobs, which would help you there. You could always ask someone if they could help you reach these areas or if they are feeling really nice, use their points to get your gear.

Please note that you may need to work on your rank, if you have not yet done so as many items from city guards are rank based

There is a keyboard that will pop up when you click one of the front R buttons, and while it's a bit cumbersome because you literally have to click each letter individually (keyboards would help) it is possible to become a pro at typing with the in game keyboard.

Also, under the party menu, you can put up your flag by seeking party. Fiddle around with the buttons and you will be able to talk to people with the keyboard...

        Hope that helps.

Like Mhurron said, to do some talking you'll want to get a keyboard. It is soooo annoying to people that have keyboards when they can type type 5 things at you and it takes 5 mins for you to say "Hi" back to them lol. Either borrow a usb one from your computer or go buy one. It doesn't have to be extremely expensive either, I used my PS2 "Gameshark Sharkboard" keyboard on my 360 that I paid like $9 for at gamestop.

1: Get a keyboard. Any generic USB keyboard will work, they can be bought for as little as $10, and you'll probably want a 6 foot extension cable to reach the couch. Or you can get one of those tiny clip-on keyboards. You won't need a mouse.

            2: Get a keyboard.

            3: Get a keyboard.

4: As was said before, once you get to that level, people don't usually sell it in the 3 nation cities. You have to go to Jeuno. Two more levels and you will be eligible for the chocobo license anyhow.

4: The regular experience rings (Emperor and Empress) can be recharged by a SIgnet NPC. Simply trade them and they will recharge it for conquest points. Don't forget to un-equip the ring first!

Yeah pretty much what everyone else has said. Bastok actually has some decent conquest items (Republic set, I think?) so you might want to look at those. Also, people are stressing about the keyboard, well, it really is that important. Even if you don't really want to talk to people that much, the game will get really boring really fast if you have no one to share it with, and the only real way to be social is to be able to talk back with them.

It's already all been said. Can't really add anything else. I'll look for you when I'm on. Just look me up and send a tell (when you get a keyboard). I'll help you out.

Legionair's gear is 10-15 I think from the Bastok gate guard.

                    Re: Newbie Help

Thanks all, for the help. Is there a good map of the whole game world or something, so I can see where to go? As is right now, It's basically a crapshoot. I haven't found a good map anywhere online, so I have to go from the in-game maps. Won;'t have any idea how to get to Jeuno, lol.

                      wiki.ffxiclopedia.org

                      From Baskok
South Gustberg -> North Gustburg -> Konschat -> Pashow Marshlands -> Rolanberry Fields -> Lower Jeuno

To San d'Oria is an easier run, if you want to do that -
South Gustberg -> North Gustburg -> Konschat -> Valcrum Dunes -> La Theine -> West Ronfaure -> Southern San d'Oria

There will be more 18~20 gear in Jeuno most likely, but getting to San d'Oria is often easier. The big push to Jeuno at lvl 20 is that that is when you can get your chocobo licence and you party 19+ in qufim (and now thanks to Level Sync, you'll level in qufim for the rest of your playing days).

                      ----
Oh, someone else here recently did post an almost whole world map that would help you figure out how to run to Jeuno, it wasn't useful for much else. It's probably best to get used to the connected areas bit on wiki to map out your runs.

                        Thanks for the quick response.

New question: At lvl 20, where do I go to get my SubJob ability?

Also, for spells I've obtained as drops that can be used by multiple classes, how do they work? Like, if I level up White Mage and teach him a spell Red Mage can learn, will my Red Mage have the spell automatically at the appropriate level, or do I have to relearn spells for each class?

                          Re: Newbie Help

At level 18, either quest your subjob in Selbina or Mhaura. You'll need higher level help for both.

Support Job - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

And yes, when you learn cure on WHM at lvl1, the moment RDM hits level 3 (iirc) you'll have access to it again. Spells and abilities (like weaponskills) are learned by the character but are only available to some jobs at certain levels. You only have to learn spells and abilities once.

the wiki posted above is a great source of information, including maps, but if you want a site that just has detailed maps i would suggest Vana'diel Atlas: Final Fantasy XI Maps collection - Treasure, NM, Quests, and Missions locations. It might be a bit overwhelming at first since you are probably not familiar with all the areas, but if you start at North or South Gustaberg and follow it through to the connecting zones it should help you get around.

This actually becomes available from level 18 from either Mhaura or Selbina. I would do the one in selbina as there tends to be a lot more pts in valkurm dunes than buburimu, though this may vary from server to server. You can either ask for help from a higher level player, 30+ or join a full pt of 18-20s and agree to claim any item you need. I'm not sure on the Mhaura items but Selbina you will need (and i apologise if spelt incorrectly) Damesfly Worm, Crab Apron and Magicfied Skull.

The first 2 can be easily obtained in the dunes, and if you pt there normally you will almost certainly get 1 of each killing damesflies for the worm and snippers for the apron.

The skull is dropped better from Ghouls, which are harder mobs to fight. The best location for these are in Gusgen Mines and the drop rate is not so great, i'm afraid to say. That being said though, if you find a level 30+ player (40+ is more recommended) you shuld only be waiting for around 20 minutes for a drop at most, but this mainly depends on our luck.

You will find many people farming in Gusgen Mines so you might wanna ask one of the high lv farmers to team up, let them claim every drop as long you get your skull.

Gusgen Mine is located from Konschaton the east side of the dem crag (if i remember correctly, no wiki access at work , lol)
