Hello everyone! Well, I'm new to this forum, at least Anyhoo, this forum caught my eye as I was looking up info about Final Fantasy XI. And here's my predicament: I've always been a huge fan of final fantasy, and MMORPGs have always appealed to me. In fact, I've been playing the MMORPG world of warcraft for quite a while now, but it has become a bit stale, and I've been losing interest in it. I've been curious about FFXI aswell, and I was wondering what advice the people of this forum would give me. ^_^ BUt, there's also a bit of a catch; I've heard the Rolepaying community in FFXI is limited at best, which would be an extreme letdown to me, as that was one of my favorite attributes while playing WoW. So, what d'ya think? Would it be worth making the transition to FFXI at this time? Or should I just take a break from MMORPGs altogether?

Re: Technically not a new player, yet.
Roleplaying isn't common in FFXI but there are a few ls's that do it. I know there are a couple of members on this forum that might know which ones they are and what servers they are on. Hopefully they'll pop in and give you that info. And now........

Re: Technically not a new player, yet.
Coming to FFXI would be a great idea, I think. I've always referred to WoW as Everquest Lite. I've seen quite a few people leave it for FFXI because they just got bored. In WoW its insanely easy to lvl and make money, so you get to endgame faster, and then you run out of things to do.
In FFXI, its harder. It takes time to build up your class(es), and when you DO hit 75, you have merits, you have dynamis and salvage, and so many other things to do. True, it will take time and effort and there will be plenty of runs with no win, but when you do get those good drops or that rare item, the victory is so much sweeter.
There are BCNM's and boss type battles all through out the game at almost all levels. The lvl capped battles keep you from just having a high lvl walk you through it, so you have to think, you have to put in the effort and the strategy. The BCNM's and Assaults give you tasks to figure out and complete in certain timelimits. Overcoming these challenges can net you GREAT rewards, though just beating the challenge can be a reward in itself. And I know nothing better than planning and completing an event and coming out at the end with the announcement that I now hold the new record for that battle.
I have not seen many Roleplay LS on Sylph, though I know they exist. I don't look into it because I haven't done any RP in years so I don't follow those leads.
If you're coming from WoW you might find FFXI to be rather difficult in the begining, but the rewards are worthwhile if you stick with it. ^.^

Re: Technically not a new player, yet.
What changes your mind about the slow leveling and the time that it takes to build your character..
is that you can change between 20 jobs. Aswell as having a subjob which allows you to access some
abilities of another job. Basically you can be a Warrior/Monk the first day and be a Black Mage/White Mage
the next ALL in the click of a button through your Mog house. There are many veteran players, more than
WoW will ever have ^.^

Re: Technically not a new player, yet.
Hi Vivafanatic.. I am in the same boat as you right now. I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time. Just recently I have gotten my brother, dad, and grandfather to play with me. But sadly, I am really losing interest in the game (and fast). I've been reading up on FFXI a lot lately and I keep thinking while I play WoW that I want to try FFXI... I am hoping to make the transition soon enough. Best of luck with yours as well.
