About your "second class id", I take it you mean a sub job. So basically like black mage/white mage right? The thing is in order to have a sub job you need to do a quest. You can't complete the quest until you are level 18. You can obtain the items you need for the quest ahead of time though. Here is the info on that quest:

Elder Memories - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

Make sure to check out the links in the above post for a lot of good info.

        Re: New 360 player

        oh young padawan,

-Get any USB keyboard, and plug it into your 360, it should work, and make playing the game alot easier. (not sure never played ffxi on a console) Just a suggestion though.
-Don't get to sub jobs, until you get a job to lvl 18 and complete a quest in the town of Selbina to unlock the ability to sub an additional job. You'll need a Crab Apron, a Magicked Skull, and a Damsel worm. All of which drop in the valkrum dunes, the area that leads to selbina.

You'll wanna check out these links when you have questions about starting out.

        The Auction House online

The FFXI Wikipedia. This will be your most useful resource overall

Allakhazam: useful for forums and some game details, again, stick to the wiki for more accurate information.

        and this website of course.

It's gonna be sorta tough, as you aren't on a PC so you'll have to bounce between your TV and a PC, but it's really the best way to learn about the game.

I mean, your gonna wanna build fame, start doing your nation's missions, lvl up to 30ish so you can unlock other jobs, do some quests for gil/exp/items, get your subjob unlocked, lvl up what ever sub your gonna use, start using the Auction House, etc. etc.

Good luck, if you get the bug to learn and experience all tha Vana'diel has to offer, it's very rewarding, but you only get out, what you put in.

This is all good stuff and i really appreciate it, one of the major problems im having though is keeping myself healed while im questing. Is there a dependable way for a warrior to heal himself other then logging out to heal?

You don't have to log out, but the only way for a War with no access to a Support Job to heal HP is to type /heal and hit Enter. Some people call this resting some people call this healing. There should be a shortcut button on your controller that does the same thing. Any 360 players out there able to help answer this?

Its naturally set up as a shoulder/trigger button when you input a controller on the pc, so I would assume that that's it here too....
As a rule of thumb, its always good to familiarize yourself with all the buttons on any game

Its the button that makes you KNEEL, while KNEELING you will see your life/mp start to rise. Each rise is called a "tick". There are items that makes these "ticks" more potent. You must kneel a coupla seconds before you notice this effect.

BTW, the subjob quest may be different if you started in Windurst, do not go to the valkrum dunes, and instead go to Bururu Penninsula and Get the Mhuara subjob quest.

Welcome to the rest of the end of your life. Not as addicting as WoW but 10x better.

Want to elaborate on how any job is different based on the starting nation?

There's a subjob quest in Mhaura as well.

In fact, the quest to gain access to Whitegate/Aht Urhgan areas requires you collect all 6 subjob items (unless you opt to collect more "difficult" items).

You answered your own question with your second quote. Shep only listed the quest for seblina or more then likely residents of basty or sandy. If he was from windy, chances are being new, he wouldn't head to dunes or selbina, and therefore would need the quest in mhuara. Which is a different quest, with different items, for a subjob. You knew exactly what I mean. Thanks for coming. Have a nice day.

Most people do the Elder Memories - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki quest and thats why I only put that one up. It doesn't matter what city you are from, you can do either quest. I would advise you to do the quest in the area where most people are exping since the items drop from the mobs in that area.

Why would he not head to the dunes? If you are from Windurst, do you suddenly only take invites for parties in Buburimu or Shakrami?

Simple solution: Don't activate either quest until you've got all three items for one or the other. Once you've activated one of the two, you're stuck with that one, and it doesn't do you any good until you have the items anyway. So just hold off, and wherever you end up partying to 18, grab the items, and then go activate and complete the appropriate quest in one go.
