Pretty much. Just keep killing stuff until you hit around level 10, then you can move on to Valkurm Dunes.

i met a guy online, absolute legend in helping me with my thief. I'm now level 12 but he said before i go to valkurm dunes i should level up another job like warrior. He also mentioned something about gimping but i'm not sure what that is?

Ahh yes....The Notorious Gimping. Gimping has a few meanings but I can only think of two: wearing armor/using weapons that are wayyyyyyy to low to be using, or having a subjob that is leveled less than half of your main job. He was suggesting leveling a second job so that when you unlock the subjob ability you'll have a potential sub already leveled and you won't have to stop what you are doing to immediately go level one. I saw a THF23/WAR1 out soloing in Valkurm dunes the other day, I just shook my head.

While I'm on the gimp SJ subject, they should make it so that if you don't have a subjob that you can't "Level Sync" past level 20. We kicked this THF from our linkshell for suspicions of being RMT. He was in a level sync party and had been sync'd to level 23 with no SJ, his real level was like 27.
