Hey everyone, I recently picked this game up, and I am very excited to become a part of its community. I came on here to meet some people who could show me the ropes and maybe introduce me to a guild or something along those lines. I hope to get to know a lot of you guys within the community!

How are you finding the game? What server are you on and what job are you leveling. First bit of advice I should give you is when you go outside your home city to level you should talk to the NPC with two letters after their name (W.W, T.K etc) and get Signet from them. This will help a lot when leveling, one of the main points is it gives you Conquest Points that you can spend at the same guards. With these points you can buy items, such as rings that increase the amount of EXP you get from killing monsters for a certain amount of time

Well, I've only sort of dabbled at this point. I created a Red Mage on the Leviathan server. So far the game looks very immersive, I was really impressed with the variety and depth of weapon skills etc. I'm a veteran of WoW so you can understand where I come from when I say I'm more accustomed to simple MMO's
I'm playing it on the Xbox 360, is there any server that serves as a sort of favorite for 360 users? I was considering erasing the beginning character I have and just beginning on a new server if I meet some people on here. Is there anything in FFXI that serves as a kind of guild?

All servers are pretty mixed when it comes to what consoles people play on and their nationalities so whichever server you're on you'll find yourself in the same situation.
Guilds are different on FFXI than they are to WoW. I understand on WoW they are like a club of friends/people? On FFXI the equivalent would be a Linkshell. You can either buy one and distribute link pearls to friends or join one already made. You get them for different purposes, roleplaying, social, based on language, mission based, static based etc etc
FFXI does have guilds, crafting guilds. You join a guild, level your crafting from skilling up on recipes and then doing a test recipe and hand in a certain item to the guild every ten levels to be able to level further.
