Just wanted to say hi all! I played FFXI quite some time ago when it was first released for about a year. Military deployements and other commitments got in the way. I've been feaning for another MMO experience and have been playing a free game called Secret of the Solstice for about a week...It's such a shallow experience I'm going to Best Buy tonight to pick up the new Vana'Diel Collection and start up this game again. I still have my old discs from launch...but I'm pretty sure the updates would be more than I can handle. It seems it took HOURS to install at LAUNCH. There's no way I'm going to update an original install. LOL

So what's new?

but really depending on how long ago you played, too much to recall, RDM is in WHM is out BLM is shunned new job called pup is left alone like BST, endgame content increases, a bunch of new zones in toau, and past vanadiel, campaign. TP burns are the norm, skill chains don't exist, skill is hard to find, the sky is falling, ultimate mobs are starting to die, and people are fighting over dynamis areas, like acctual fighting, i think I read a SS somewhere someone saying Where do you live so I can come kick your ass because you got into dyna before me. (ok not really but it is getting there). Just about everything else since 2003-04.

Other than that, not much has changed.

LOL What do you mean WHM is out and BLM is shunned? When I played RDM were WEAK. What's TP Burn, and did they really get rid of skill chains?

TP burn = Burn TP as soon as you get it, eliminating skillchains.

And yes, black mages do get shunned in exp parties, due to reflecting colibri and mp constraints.

You obviously played before NA release, then. We haven't gotten much of an update since then, and have since been obscenely overpowered in the magic department.

Colibri are birds that mimic whatever you're saying. This includes magical incantations, so if you dare cast a spell on a colibri, and it doesn't die right off the bat, be prepared to get that same spell right back to you. Even if you Silence it, the dang birds have excellent memories, too, and will give you a recap of about everything you've done to them as soon as they can talk again, including Silence itself (and this is provided you can even stick Silence in the first place).

The fact that these are popular exp targets is obviously problematic for Black Mages, and ever since ToAU, BLM solo has been unfortunately common, as it's been pretty much either that or main heal for them, and in all honesty, I have to cry every time I see a Black Mage main heal. It only makes me shake my head with Red Mages, but I cry whenever a Black Mage main heals. (For the record, I just feel sick whenever Summoners main heal.)
