  • Questions!!

So I got this Starter Pack for 1.99 that comes with FFXI with three exapnsions and 30 days subscription. Well I haven't used it yet, since I don't have my visa gift card, but I got some questions.

1)Can I use this as the full game? Instead of buying like the original? (like Vana'diel collection)
    2) Can I keep playing with this after the 30 day trial?

    Thanks in advanced :D

I haven't heard of a starter pack that comes with expansions. Other than verifying the expansion issue, as that's what normally prevents people from using starter packs long-term, the answer to your questions is yes.

So I can? So I saved like 20$? Can I do that? This only cost 1.99 and you can get them at Gamestop/EBGAMES

        Re: Questions!!

As far as I'm aware, the starter pack comes with no expansions whatsoever.

You get 30 days from the date of your first login; if you don't cancel before that 30 day period ends, you get charged (pro-rated) for whatever time is left on the month as of the normal billing date, and then get billed as normal every month afterward.

You will need to buy the full game. But you can continue to use the account after the 30 days if you buy the actual game, from what I understand. The starter pack does not come with expansions, so you'd have to buy those anyway, and at this point it's cheaper to just get the Vanadiel Collection ($29.99) which comes with everything anyway.

I started an account using the starter pack. It only contains Rise of Zilart in it. You will need to eventually buy the other expansion packs if you keep playing the game. The starter pack will last you until around level 25ish.

              Re: Questions!!

Well, if it has RotZ that's a big help. RotZ is what you need basically when you hit 25, for jungles and altepa. CoP isn't a big deal for xp since people don't reliably have Lufaise access so having parties there is rare. ToAU is pretty much required from level 55 on, though, due to the camps there being better/easier xp than other zones for those levels. WotG offers alternatives over a lot of level ranges, but as yet pickup parties don't tend to use those zones at all.

Again, I haven't seen a starter pack that actually came with any expansions, myself. And buying Vana'diel Collection is a cheaper way of getting the expansions than trying to get them individually. Though I don't know what impact the consolidation of registration codes in the newer collections has on that.

I think there is some content that doesn't become available unless you have a specific expansion and all previous expansions installed and activated. Unless I've misunderstood the update notices from SE. But in general the only expansions you truly need to get by are Rise of the Zilart and Treasures of Aht Urghan. Though Wings of the Goddess has a lot of things you'll end up wanting. I'd say Chains of Promathia is the most expendable of the expansions -- No expansion-specific jobs; only a few xp camps, none of them must-have popularity; much of the content is hard enough to get at that there's no solid expectation you must have access. If you're planning to take BLU to 75, though, you'll need to progress through CoP and get sea access to learn a number of important spells.

Hmm, I probably just buy the vanadiel collection to extend my 30 days. Can I do that? And when I put in the Starter Disc, I got the options to install Rise of Zilart, Chains of Promathia, and Treasures of aht augrahn(sp?).

                  Re: Questions!!

Unfortunately, you can't add the free trials together. You get thirty free days at the beginning of any new account. That means if you discard/deactivate your starter pack account and create a new one with the Vana'diel Collection codes, you'll get a new trial, but you'll be starting over from scratch. If you want to keep using the same account, you can't get the the trial over again. Although some might choose to keep the starter account and make a new one, for the sake of later two-boxing. Whether that's worth the cost of eventually paying two full subscription fees per month is up to you to decide.

Also, the question isn't whether the expansions are there to install (though it's good to know they are, for those of us who have lost media), but whether there is an activation code to cover that content. The documentation with the disc should say something about this, but ultimately, the sure way to tell is to register the content, including the "expanded services" registration or whatever it was, and then see if the expansion names are lit up on the FFXI Log In screen.
