  • Greetings!

Good evening, Having been an old school FF fan since way back, I recently started doing some research into FFXI. I currently play a few other mmorpgs, which have grown rather stale over the passing years, and had started looking for a different game to get into with my younger brother (I am 25 and he is 22, we game together often and have for years). Well, years ago I had purchased FFXI near the time of its release, I had a host of RL issues during that time and ended up misplacing my game boxes during a move from one residence to another, which in turn obviously cost me the account (luckily I had nothing of value or any real note). This evening I purchased the '08 Vana'Diel Collection and my brother will be doing the same tommorow, we plan to try and level as a duo as much as possible, but obviously are not adverse to grouping whatsoever, and we look forward to meeting a host of new people and getting entrenched in the community. Jobs are undecided atm, as we are both extremely noob, relying on my very limited knowledge of what I experienced during my early leveling during those times back around the games release. More than likely I will go support and he will tank, to make the time we do spend duo'ing that much more enjoyable/smooth. Anyways, thanks for having me/us, and hope to get to know most of you better over the coming months. Have a great night.

    Re: Greetings!

Welcome back to FFXI! I'm sure you'll find plenty of fun times again.

For duo'ing, you have a great idea with tank and support. However, please consider duo BST, as that's just incredibly great too!

    Benefits of BST Duo:
    No waiting for party invites.
Plenty of Beastmen Seals/Kindred Seals to share.
Great exposure to hate control dynamics.
Opportunity to learn the basics of both melee and mage jobs (to some degree).
At 75, there are many, many things that 2 BSTs can do with ease that other combinations can't do or just can't do as efficiently.

Above all else, do what's fun! Never forget this is a game, and you should enjoy yourselves!

    Once again, welcome.

Welcome (back)! Hope you enjoy the game and all it has to offer. If you happen to be on Lakshmi I am more than happy to give you whatever help I can, whenever I can.

BST Duo was something I hadn't considered, thank you very much for this excellent suggestion, I just might have to go this route instead of the one I originally planned Much appreciated responses from everyone, hope to be ingame a little later this evening. I will update this thread accordingly once I have server info, character names, etc.. Thanks again

          Re: Greetings!

BST duo ftw...you're smart to get a partner to play with as starting off solo can be kinda rough. Help each other with the subjob quests and various missions, it'll pay off

Welcome to the forums and welcome back to Final Fantasy XI. I may not be able to provide information on my own personal experiences in the game (for now).

Enjoy your time here and best of luck in Vana'diel!

              Re: Greetings!

              Quick update:

We have since rolled our characters, I decided to start as RDM and my brother has gone WAR. Tank/Support combo should make for a decent duo till we can get subs at 18 and swap to an advanced at 30.

We are on Leviathan, decided to go there on the recommendation of an old friend who played once upon a time (and offered to give me a fair amount of gil to start out with, which has made things much simpler early on for the both of us starting out as new characters without a previously leveled job).

Serrano is my RDM if anyone plays on Levi and wants to chat.

I've also been experimenting with BLM solo capabilities, and my results have been half decent to say the least, coupled with available guides I can see it being a very worthwhile job to toy with solo when my duo'ing partner is unavailable (or I/we just don't feel like looking for a PT that particular night).

              Jurocha is my BLM.
