  • stupid me : used CD key?

Hi, I have just bought on ebay an used copy of FFXI for xbox360. Now I'm saying it aloud, it sounds like a very stupid move. I have played many MMO and each one had a "one shot" cd key and buying a used box is just wasting money. Any chance I can create a new account with this used key, since it's obvious the previous owner is not playing anymore - wich would have not been so obvious if the game were a PC game - ? I would request the previous player's logon infos, but I'm pretty sure it violates the EULA - even if selling accounts has to be a common business. Beside I have allready been told by the seller that he had not those informations, having bought a used box he never used himself ( 0o ). It seems to me I'm screwed. The fact that the box was shipped with speed and the seller answered all my questions makes me think he did not purposefully ripped me off. Any ideas?

Unless you can find someone who has unused registration codes they're willing to part with (this may also be iffy re: the EULA, but I honestly have no idea), your cheapest option is going to be just buying the Vana'diel Collection 2008. Otherwise, you could buy the starter pack, use it to make a full account, and then buy registration codes for the expansion packs, but that ends up costing more anyway.

used codes are worthless in FFXI and the only way to get new ones is to:

      1. find someone with codes that they will never use
      2. but the FFXI starter pack for PC...use it's code to get going and then buy the codes for the expension packs
      3. Buy the Vanadiel collection 2008 for PC and use those codes...

ok, well it kind of defeat the purpose since FFXI wasn't worth IMO to buy the complete game... except if the PC gamebox is cheaper? Are you sure that a PC key will work with a xbox360 game? Thank you both for your help though (:

Registration codes are not platform-specific, but they are region-specific. You can use PC or PS2 codes for the 360, etc. The only thing to worry about is if you do get the game, and then later want a new expansion, you have to buy it for the region (NA, EU, JP) of your existing account.

But that's all moot for you, because the 2008 collection is the same price on all three platforms.

If you don't think it's worth it, why would you want to play the game anyway? I never understood this logic from people.

Anyway no, as people have said used codes are worthless. Being that you've played many MMO's you should have known this before even buying it, if the auction didn't stipulate the account was attached you got hosed. Prolly someone who started on the 360 moving to the PC wanting to get rid of their disk.

Only way you're gonna play is to buy the game. Since you obviously think the game isn't worth it, either A) Buy the starter pack for like 2 bucks at some EB/Gamestop somewhere and try it out to see if you like it or B) suck up the loss and move on.

well I thought the game was worth a try, and a 10$ try from ebay looked reasonable.
But yeah I should have known better. Let's say I was in a xbox360 state of mind and it didn't occured to me that I could probably have tried that game as any other MMO on PC.

PM me. I don't have TAU or WTG codes to spare, but I'm pretty sure you can buy those from SE if you want to.

I seem to remember you can buy registration codes straight from Square-Enix via the PlayOnline interface (go through the installation - it won't ask you for any keys until you actually try to play).

EDIT: Seems you need at least the Starter Pack, since you can only buy EXPANSION codes direct from Square-Enix. Fortunately the Starter Pack is only $1.99.
