Hello everyone! I recently got FFXI and wanted to know somethings before I started playing. I've been reading some guides and stuff around here and I wanted to know which class I should be. I was either thinking Red Mage or Warrior. What's the best one to start out with for a beginner? And what is one of the most populated servers? I like to play online games with lots of people around. I read that Garuda (or something) was a nicely populated place and wouldn't need help finding a party. I hope someone can answer these questions.

I have 3 expansion packs (Got the full game + 3 packs for only $20!), and I think I read somewhere that the Treasure of Aht Urhgan was supposed to help you get more money. Anyone wanna explain how to do that?

Did I post a thread like this when I started I wonder... Anyway, if you got the game already, how can you wait for our responses before you already hit lv 3 on some random server?! Try Hades, I'll hook you up with some gil to start out.

The Worlds shouldn't be all that different from each other, as they all have mixture of players from all over the world. Not to say that they are identical, but few of us has been on more than a handful, and wouldn't be able tell you which would be the best for you anyway. From FFXIAH's data, it seems like Asura has the busiest economy, so probably the highest number of players, if that is your criteria. I would say if you have any friend who plays, or friends you can convince to play with you, go to the same World. ^_^

The Which Job Should I Play? guide has more detailed info, but basically each job is interesting in its own way (just not to everyone).

I'm a Red Mage main, and find it fun and challenging. But, I did level Warrior to 40, and had a blast, well, blasting away critters with Sturmwind (a weapon skill). There's no real penalty for switching jobs, even back and forth. So, I'd say try both, and see which you like. Just keep in mind that jobs aren't very distinct from others in similar roles at lower levels; a Lv.20 Red Mage plays nothing like a Lv.50 Red Mage, I assure you.

Right now, the lower levels are a bit sparse, but the upcoming expansion pack should fix that since a lot of people will be leveling new job(s) it introduces.


p.s. Treasure of Aht Urhgan won't get you more money. ^_^;

I can't wait to start playing! But I have to wait until I can get some money so I know that I'll atleast beable to play for a month...

Edit: holy! I just watched the Wings of the Goddess trailer and it looks amazing! I hope I can get some money before it comes out.

That really depends. Ideally, you'll want to start in the nation that will give your race a ring. So, Elvaan for Sandoria, Hume or Galka for Bastok, and Mithra or Taru for Windurst. But if you prefer one race and another nation, the choice is really yours.

Oh, I noticed that the updating processes doesn't like being in the background. Your best bet is to leave it alone on the foreground, and find something else to do that doesn't involve your computer.

Be patient. I also started recently and the entire installation plus updates took almost 2 hours. Catching up with 6 years of development ain't easy.

I just bought the $20 bundle pack myself and was thinking of starting on Asura as well, so maybe I'll see you around ^^.
