New player here

Hi. I just joined up. I'm new to FFXI (although not to FF) and to online games in general, so I'm pretty clueless at the moment.

I'm playing on a PS3; I gather most people are on PCs. I don't have a PC (I have a Mac), so that's not an option. Anyway, I'm on the Fairy server, and I'm starting as a red mage elf. I've found my Mog House, but that's about as far as I've gotten, so I'm sure I'll be spending some time here, trying to get a feel for things, and in the game, wandering around cluelessly.

You should join a server that you have friends on or a server where people offer you friendship.

While your character is still young, you should probably delete it and start a new one on a server with somebody on here willing to mentor you...

Probably a good idea, I was lucky enough to be picked up by a 75 pld a few days into playing who told me some tips on how to play my job, how to use macro, crafts etc and basically answered any questions I had. Unfortunately some people aren't as lucky and don't get such a good start in game.

I might as well throw another offer into the thread, if you come to sylph, I'll help you out. ^-^

I had a guy check up on me my first day, actually, but a large part of my problem was in chatting, so I couldn't get far. Anyway, I'm muddling (muggling? moogling?) along at the moment. Probably my biggest issue at the moment is just the controller/keyboard thing.

As for jobs and crafts, I'm just not sure where to start. I'm decimating the wild rabbit population, but that just seems to be all I'm doing--killing bunnies.

I think you should start killing crawlers 12 of them sell for 40k i Jeuno or so I have been told. 1 sells for 1k, so I think at low levels thats the way to go to make some money. Also i hate my moogle...it stole my gil! oh well...

Silk thread sells for about 10k Gil a stack on Odin at the moment, according to FFXIAH.

I've posted multiple crafting links in this thread already, so not going to repeat that.
