Well, yea... I just ordered FFXI. I have been looking through the forums and have found out more about FFXI. I've been eager to play since it has came out but my mom would not let me buy the game. But now, I have my own credit card! So I will be playing FFXI soon!! :D Yippee!

I'll agree with Murphie on his statement. This is, imo, the best FFXI community site around. I've never actually signed up at another forum/site, but I've browsed through plenty of topics on other sites (such as alla and KI) and I just find the folks here to be much more passive, understanding, and all around friendlier. Again, just my opinion, don't get too heated if you disagree.

That being said, welcome to FFXI and I hope you enjoy your time as much as I, or many, many others here do.

Thanks for the hearty welcomes, I'd just liked to say that my main jobs will probably be at lvl 30, THF/NIN, is that a good combo? I'm also probably gonna be a hume or elvaan. My bro, if he plays will be a Galkaan, and he says he wants to be a DRG/SMN. Is that good too?

if by master, you mean level cap, yes,it wouldn't be possible to get the best possible armor for each job, but that's only because of space restrictions.

THF/NIN is fine (although you'll probably want to have at least /WAR as an option as well), but DRG/SMN is not really so hot. He won't be able to have two pets out at once, so no summons, and he'd be much better served by having, well...just about any other sub.

THF/NIN is a pretty typical, and strong, combo for THF. Dual wielding daggers (or swords, if you choose) makes for nice damage while still keeping a respectable delay, and Utsusemi (attack absorbing shadows) from Ninjutsu is great for pulling so you don't get (too) beat up on the way back.

DRG/SMN...erm...sorry dude, this one's not so good. Using a mage subjob on a DRG can be great for certain situations, because spellcasting can trigger your Wyvern to do a Healing Breath to heal yourself or a party member.

UNFORTUNATELY, all SMN "spells" must be cast with an Avatar out. And you can only have one pet out at a time. So...you wouldn't be able to trigger the breath. I'd say the relatively standard subjobs for DRG are WAR, THF, SAM, BLU, WHM, and RDM. BLU, WHM, and RDM are normally solo or small party (2-3) subjobs, while WAR, THF, and SAM are good large party subs, depending on level.

Hmm...that's not a bad line, though personally I think I'd start as MNK & level that to 18, to get your subjob, because then you can do a straight run 1-30 with THF before having to stop for NIN.

At the same time, you MIGHT consider starting as a WAR, and doing THF/WAR 1-30. While I personally am a member of the THF/MNK bandwagon as well ( Boost), I say /WAR because you're eventually going to need 18WAR to sub for NIN to 37, since people have this silly idea that NINs are tanks. Then you're looking at something more like:

WAR => 18
THF/WAR => 30
NIN/WAR => 37
THF/NIN 30 => 75

But at any rate, enjoy! And remember, the game's not ALL about level grinding. Don't forget to stop & watch the cutscenes instead of just spamming enter to get through them to the reward!

I feel though it would be fun to maybe change from main thf, to corsair, maybe even dark knight. But I'm afraid with classes like those I may... Go crazy. I would shoot monsters then go nuts... like... "OMFG YOU DIE NOWZZ I SHOOT J00!!!" or with the dark knight... "I AM THE GRIM REAPER.... MWAHAHAHAHAH!!" maybe monk, but that seems just... disastrous. "PUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHHIYAHHHHHHH!!" :D But most likely I'll go with corsair or dark knight now that I think about it... *GRIN* Innocent bystanders: "OMG THAT TARU HAS A GUN!!" Me: "Kekekekekekekekekek~ BYAHH!"
