  • Good server for a newbie?

So I just found my PS2 version of this game, and used the registration codes for my PC (my friend let me use his game disc to install), and I'm really excited to start playing. Basically the question I have here is, as stated in the title, which server would be the best for a newbie? I asked for a WP for Bahamut, but I'm starting to think maybe I should go to one of the two servers they keep giving me when I create a character. The two servers I keep getting are Hades and Remora.

So the question really is, should I wait to see if someone throws me over a WP for Bahamut, or go to one of those two servers, and if that is the case, which of the two is more newb friendly (in terms of economy, how new it is, how many low level players there will be to group with, etc). Sorry for the annoying question, and I appreciate any answers.

Edit: I'm sorry, this actually probably shouldn't even be in this forum should it? If it doesn't belong here, could a mod move it to the Frequently Asked Questions board? Sorry if this was the wrong place.

I'm going to move this to New Player Discussion since that's really what it falls under.

To answer your question (which is quite common), most servers are roughly equal as far as friendliness to new players. The only concession I'd make is that the newer servers (Fairy, Midgardsormr, Asura, Remora, Hades) have a slightly higher percentage of English-speaking players, which could impact your preferences.

I don't a specific suggestion as for which server to get on, but I can tell you to avoid Fairy. I've got 4 characters on that server (all my friends in RL were on fairy) and it seems like it was popular with the gil-sellers...inflation was way out of control, and now that they banned all those gil-seller accounts, deflation is now also way out of control. Armor that I spent 60k-70k for at auction are now worth far less, so of course my bank roll has diminished considerably gearing up my 32 monk. Most of the peeps in my linkshell have millions of gil (cause they've been playing since launch) so it doesn't effect them as much, but I pretty much have to use the money made from selling my old gear to purchase the new, so it's really crimping my style.
At any rate, when inflation was way out of control, items on Fairy were going for 3 times their price on other servers. A friend that plays on Quetzlcoatl says its pretty good there (stable economy), so maybe thats worth a shot. http://www.ffxiah.com has inflation trends on all the different servers on the front page, so thats a place you can check if you're concerned with a stable economy (a valid concern).
As for number of new characters, I have no clue. I can't find anything on server demographics online, so if anyone out there has any information, let me know...I'd be interested to see that myself

Re: Good server for a newbie?

Thank you for the answer and moving the topic where it belongs. I apologize for asking such a common question, I just didn't want to make a mistake by going to a server where I'm going to have trouble with the economy with prices being too high, or not enough players my level to group with. The English speaking thing is actually a good thing to bring up, so I'll probably just go to Remora or Hades, as I'm assuming Bahamut being an older server (since you said the others were newer) would probably not be as good of an option for me. Once again thanks for the help, and sorry about the question.

Thank you also Effedup, that's exactly what I was trying to avoid was ridiculous inflation, since I'm 100% new to this game I don't want to gimp myself right off the bat with gear being incredibly expensive and out of reach for me. Thanks for the link too, as that will help me determine it more, I'd assume the newer servers are better for a new player, because I'd at least get to (somewhat) grow with the economy. Thanks to both of you, I'm really looking forward to starting!
