Well, me and Jirard of Quetzalcoatl actually did meet up at the Fan Festival on the first night-- Thursday, March 9th, 2006-- And we spent about an hour and a half waiting in line to get our tickets...
There was a large white tent off to the side, as well as people cosplaying everywhere from Red Mages to a Mithran WHM with a Yagudo Hat on her head doing Bastok's "/salute" emote.
There were also people who went as far as to create a huge San d'Orian flag (like the one the Elvaans carried in FFXI's opening FMV) and cheered for their favorite country. Of course, the integrity of their morale was immediately attacked by fans from opposing countries shouting back "SANDY SUCKS!!!!"
In any case, I met up with Jirard, like I said. I was the 6-Foot-Tall dark-skinned dude wearing all black with a white "Fisherman's Cap". It was already nightfall so it was quite dark there and we missed the performance of the cover bands who were there earlier. Off in the distance as you waited in line you could hear funky renditions of FFXI's various themes such as an electric guitar version of the theme of "Kazham".
Me and Jirard got inside and I guessed we missed the opening presentation because the stage was empty but there were booths and tables with live demonstrations of the XBox 360 version of FFXI. They locked you on the "Hydra" server as a character with all Jobs at Lv. 20 and all crafts at Lv. 10.
We also got our gobbie backs that I examined upon my return home as you can see from pictures below.
I recorded some footage and slapped it together in Adobe Premiere Pro real fast for you to get a taste.
I forget who else was showing up, but if you see me, feel free to say Hello to me and my friends. Here's that video that I was talking about in case you wanted to see it.
And here's the pictures examining the contents of my gobbie bag.
Enjoy. And I hope to see you there.
