I used to work in a PC repair shop, if the problem with your PC is what I think it is you could have fixed it for about £20-25 yourself if you know where to get the parts from.
New CPU fan and heatsink is about £15 (obviously it will cost more if you want a more heavy duty one but since you mostly play FFXI and WOW you won't really need heavy duty cooling)
Case fans are about $3-5 depending on size and how many you want.
Thermal paste is a couple of quid.
It's a 5 min job. I think you may have been ripped off there (unless it was a repair under warranty or something in which case your house insurance will cover costs for if a PC breaks).
It was under warranty. She mentioned it before. But yeah... those prices arent far off from those in the US... once you factor in the exchange rate. Anything like that that I've done for myself never cost me over $30
If it was a Mac I would send it in for a repair under a warranty if only because replacement Mac parts as priced as though they are made of solid platinum and it would cost me more to fix it myself.
Then again if I owned a Mac I'd sell it, build a badass gaming rig and still have enough cash left for a decent laptop and lunch.
Also it's a shame you couldn't be on tonight Leasious. You missed me and Jarre showing off to each other and both tanking stuff we have no right to be tanking, usually by pulling silly numbers of mobs along with the appropriate responses on Skype's voice chat. I was on WAR/DNC and he was on PLD/RDM. Good times...
Sorry to say it but I won't be on yet again for another 2 weeks, they broke my graphics card tryin to fix the first problem, which btw was thermal glue was dry causing it to overheat.
I've been t pc world for 2 hours arguing with the manager, he was trying to say it was my monitor broke, but it took a boy half his age to realise theyve broken the ports on the graphics card.
Whilst the manager was blaming my monitor for not working, he managed to break it.
So have made a complaint against him, had ago at him and got a new monitor, but now I have to wait for my pc to come back again ; ;
See, this is why you don't take your computer to a shop unless you really trust the store.
I've never heard of a graphics card having thermal paste, much less having it dry out. Sounds like bullshit to me, but someone should jump in and correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Well, you gotta transfer that heat from the GPU to the heat sink somehow. It wouldn't surprise me if there's some thermal paste in there.
Be sure to demand a diagnostic when you talk to them again. Tell them that you want a detailed list of the problems that they supposedly solved and exactly what it is they did to resolve them. I smell bullshit.
Compare whatever list they give you to what you originally complained about and bring this information to us. If they royally fucked up your rig... warranty or no warranty... you're owed a lot more than just a new monitor. The fact that PC World ponied up a new monitor for you at all is nothing short of astounding. If they did that it's because they know they fucked up bigtime.
