Only because they talked about it in-game. As long as you don't talk about things in-game you're usually ok.

acualy....that is what I thought too, but there are 2 DLL files taht are in FFXI that are altered to make the game windowed, and now when the game is updated, it is rumored that they check those 2 DLL and if they have been altered they know you have been useing Windower, and no it is not against the law because the DLL files belong to FFXI and it is SEs right to check them, and no I dont know the two DLLs...I forgot -.-

Windower does not alter any files. S-E has no way of telling what programs you're running. It's paranoia. Just don't talk about it.

they are on S.E's " DO NOT BAN " list. thats why if you havent already noticed. the well respected players get banned for mpking, while nothing happens to gil farmers. because if something did happen. RMT wont cut S.E a check at the end of the month..

exactly, windower modifies D3D. the FFXI and POL files, and for that matter the game cannot tell the difference between windowed and not.

Actually the Windower doesn't alter the DLLs it redirects the registry keys. I already know this from a person who posted on here before about how his windower messed up his display and he couldn't correct the games display even with the windower off.

The resolution that fixed it is he restored a previous registry setting. So the windower does make a traceable change, that is all SE has to look for.

He probably did something to screw it up himself. Windower does not mess with the registry. If it did, there'd be many many people with screwed up settings as a result of Windower.

Yes, he did do something that caused the windower to not return the registry changes back correctly. Point is something does change when windower is used, it's only a matter of identifying that change.

                                EDIT:

I wouldn't doubt one bit that the windower leaves some trace of it's existence. API Functions will easily indefying it too. APIs are extreemly powerful, they'll let you change the function or process of any window but can also be used to get reports on a specific window. They are capable of intercepting eachothers SendMessages to find out what a program is telling another to do.

If I can make a Task Manager that lets me see all process as well and the modules running that each process has and the hidden processes on my own system, I'm sure with API a function could be made to seek out another process running that shouldn't be and send a notification to SE or do other various things.
