  • Wow... lots of things to reply to. Sorry for no pictures yesterday, I was sick. I didn't even go into work because I didn't feel well. I know a lot of things happened over the weekend in terms of FFXI. The most incredible one, was the release of the three dragon HNMs. I'll get to that in a bit though...

Ahh, I can't wait to get started on the Promyvions! I'm gonna be doing either Holla or Mea on Wednesday, it looks like. I've actually got a question about that. Fal, what do you think would be more useful for Promyvion? THF/NIN, or THF/WAR? I could easily level WAR one more level in time, if need be. I was thinking Provoke+Perfect Dodge might come in handy in an emergency, and Aggressor might make up for the lack of a second weapon. But I just feel so naked without Utsusemi, even if I really shouldn't be getting hit. I'll obviously be bringing a sword, since I won't have Viper Bite in there, and Fast Blade is the next best thing (plus the sword I got has a +2 DEX ^^), and my sword skill is capped for that level. I was just wondering how useful either THF/NIN or THF/WAR would be. Or hell, even THF/MNK, though that seems a bit less useful.

To Kyrial: Hey Kyrial. The ideal job for this is Warrior/Ninja. I'm not sure if you have Warrior at level 30 (i'm assuming not). If you do not have WAR/NIN available, could you go as RNG/NIN? Again, I'm not quite sure of your jobs... If none of those are available, go as THF/NIN. Don't go as THF/WAR, as you have *no business* provoking and taking hate away from the tank. His provoke should be enough to bring the mob back. The Promyvion mobs hit *hard* at the later islands, its best to let your tank soak up the damage. I would suggest to you to just go as Thief/Ninja so you can Sneak Attack and then dodge the attacks with Utsusemi when you temporarily gain hate. If you have a 2nd tank, then you can at least SATA it up. Just do Thief/Ninja since you're most comfortable with that.

Hey Fal, its me Eragon. Perhaps you dont remember me, i posted on your thread approximately 30 pages ago, however i wanted to let you know that i am very dedicated to you and this thread in general. I think everyoe will agree with me when i say that i look forward to the latter part of my day to view your thread. What entices us all to your thread, are your awe inspiring pictures, your friendly attitude towards us all, and your willingness to introduce us to only a sample of the adventues that you have experienced.

Fal, sadly we cannot all be as outgoing as Lionheart, or Kyrial, but i assure you that we are all here for you. I know that you are a very humble person, and that is very honorable. However seeing you in that Crimon Sale Mail, with your Chappeau, and Genbu's Shield and Joyeuse, is truely on if not the most magnificent sights i have ever viewed in the game. Secondly, congratulations on your accomlishments as a RDM.

Now, down to bussiness. I have viewed quite a few recent threads about the introduction of 3 new dragon mobs into Vana'Diel. One being Tiamat, th other in Ranperres Tomb, and the oher in Ulenguard Rane(sp?). Seeing that you are in a very united, friendly, and powerful LS, i am expecting you to be going after them quite soon. Please fill me in any information you know about them, and please be sure to post screenies of them when you get to taking them down. Thanks again Fal, and i hope that your job is going well, as well as your online experience. Good luck on your journies everyone.

To Eragon: Man I'm touched Eragon. That was a very nice thing of you to say. I'm happy that I'm able to bring these screenshots to you guys. I'm just... speechless from your heartfelt comment. Thanks!

Speaking of those dragons, I think it's safe to say that all HNM LShells across *all* servers have went after these dragons. Upon waking up Saturday morning, I told my LS good morning. They said, come on! So I packed up my BLM gear and headed out to 'The Range'. These wyrms were just discovered, so you can guarantee that all the LShells on my server, both Japanese and NA went after these. There was talk in the LS that these guys are tough... Kirin tough and there were talks on the Japanese messageboards of needing several parties to kill him. However, we didn't have the members to do so but we wanted to test our mettle against Jormagund. Afterall, we've fought every HNM there is on the server up to this point with success, so why not? We tried two times and failed each time. Discouraged, a few of us stayed because after we pulled him first, other bigname Japanese Linkshells came and waited for their turn. We did "ok" in terms of survival but damn, these things are hard to chip off. All the BLMs were doing decent damage but that health bar was barely budging. Then we let another LS try, they suffered the same fate as we. Then a 3rd bigname JP LS came. They did quite well, as they had extras to substitute people. They got Jormagund down to 90% HP (quite a big feat). In the end, they suffered death because they ran out of Paladins. That was the last I saw of him for that day.

I do know that other Linkshells got together to try to kill them as an alliance, but I'm quite sure that there was no successes. I do have a couple of screenshots on these guys, so I'll post them in a bit. I think you just have to brute force these Wyrms. After all, we did get it to 95% with just 16 people. If we had enough members to substitute in and out (like we do for Kirin), then I think we could accomplish victory. I've not seen the other 2 dragons in person, but up at 'The Range', you have a problem with constant ice weather. This in turn forces Ice Elementals to spawn. Ice Elementals and the Snoll-type mobs aggro to magic. Well with these kind of HNMs, it is very hard to handle the HNM and aggro to VT or higher monsters. (Just imagine fighting Nidhogg when Darters aggro, that's what it was like here). We had a party dedicated to handling adds. I'm an Elvaan BLM, so I have considerable more HP than my Taru counterparts. The Snoll's self-destruct killed *me* doing 950 damage and wiped out all the Tarus in the vicinity. The remaining people had a sliver of health.

I do know we'll likely team up with other JP HNM Linkshells, because we've done so for all the HNMs. I know that there has been reports of LShells already beating one of these Wyrms. Alas, I can't do my duty as a member until the weekend rolls around. I'll post some screenshots up. I know you may be thinking "dammit, Fal is a mage, so we can't see this guy close up." Well trust me, you'll see him close up because he pulled me into him and took a bite out of my Elvaan ass. :spin:

To forster: Haha, so that's what you were doing! I was quite curious why you took a screenshot of me.

    • Great CoP pics Fal! I actually completed Promyvion Mea a couple of nights ago, so I'm 1/3 of the way to Tavnazia. I must have been in a good pt, or it's one of the easier ones. We had a 12 man alliance that got through to the spire very quickly and our pt killed the boss without any close calls.

Oh well, now I just need to find time to do the others.

      Keep up the good work!

      • Hello all I am a long time "lurker" first time poster to the boards. I would like to thank you all for the valuable information you have provided me over the past several months since I first got this game.

I would especially like to thank Fal for the amazing pic's that have not only peaked my interest in the game, but maintained my interest even when I was seriously disheartened by the daunting ness of it all.

Keep up the good work Fal !!!!!

Fal if I may ask a question of you (or anyone for that matter): What would you suggest I do to obtain a promyvion party? I am a 48 sam/war and have found it extremely difficult to find a group for these quests. I am always on the look out for shouts in Jeuno for any of these missions, but thus far I have been turned away from 4 separate alliances all who have told me that sam is useless in promyvion. I am currently trying to organize an LS group to do this, but most of the members have little interest because the missions pose no real lv or monetary gain.

Do you think that my best bet is to lv a sub job such as nin for the expressed purpose of the promyvion missions?

Thanks again for any advice and the awesome pic's of you proving that players can take anything Square can throw at us!!!

        • Yep. Lovely screenshots as always Fal. Oh btw.. I got my first Sniper's Ring! >.> I know I'm behind on times but.. hey, I love it. Lol. Oh well, time to get back to the ol' leveling. Level 58, here I come! ;_;

Oh, yeah. Good luck when your LS tries those Dragons again. ^^

          • Jormagund & Responses...
Yes I know there about 10 or so threads dedicated to showing off these beasts. Well, these are my pictures and it is my duty to post them on my thread. I've been posting only Promathia missions, so I apologize for leaving out the rest of you readers. I know a lot of you refuse to read my thread to avoid being spoiled of the story. This is just a nice change of pace for you guys. Enjoy...
As for the rest of you, I'll get back to CoP in about a day or so. Now for the responses right quick since I got some replies while I was gone.

To gungus and Akiyama: Congratulations (gungus) on victory on Promyvion. Congrats to you Aki for the Sniper's Ring. It's good to see you care about equipment. That's a reflection of how you care about being good at your job.

To Dryn: Hmm. You know the bad thing about Promyvion and other Promathia Missions is that it is extremely easy with certain types of jobs. So even though I haven't experienced what you're going through, I can understand your pain because I've seen my friends go through the same thing. I'm telling you based on my experiences, so I think I'm somewhat biased on a "walkthrough" for Promyvion. I'm sure other readers can tell you how they did it. My PT consisted of WAR/NIN, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, RDM/WHM, BLM/WHM, WHM/BLM. So that's the party I *know* can go through any Promyvion by themselves without an alliance.

I for one can't tell you to do much else than to keep looking for shouts or better yet, create the PT yourself. If you create one yourself and you're the leader, you won't get kicked. I think you'll be fine in the BCNM part of it. It's just the Receptacle hopping is kind of a bitch to do. Rangers are the most ideal when it comes to taking out receptacles and then the melee can mop up the strays. Then again, Ninja subjob helps so much in many situations. You would benefit from leveling Ninja for more than just Promyvion alone, so if you want to level up Ninja to 15 (Promy is level cap 30), you could do that. Then again.. the Valkurm grind is what scares me. T_T

Ok, as promised. Here's the big baddy Wyrm of the North! The first few pictures are just random ones (My trek up to the spawn location. The Beastmaster picture is for Ka1'E1, he wanted a BST picture. I know it isn't Elvaan, but that was one of the first pictures I saw of one that isn't in Hauberk/Bison armor.

            • Hahahaha that dragon is insane. It seems that he piled all the dead bodies in a pile for later use as snacks, also the faint glitter in its eye when he saw that taru mage (The kind that uses juices and pies a lot, lol). Anyway did anybody killed that dragon (Or any of the other two) on your server yet? I’m curious to know what they drop. Fal you rock

              One ramdom question:
I have heard that the D.Abjuration: Body (used to uncurse Shura Togi) is rarer drop that Kirin's Osode is that true?

              • That is one bad ass dragon! Look at all the dead people!

btw, is it me, or is he changing colors in a few of those shots?

                Thanks Yyg!

                • Wow.. is it just me or did the dragon change color's through-out the fight? Or would that have to do with the angles you took the SS's at Fal? Anyway great shots.

                  • Good grief. You guys must stalk my thread. Three responses all within minutes of each other!

To Belzebu: Haha yeah, I especially liked that picture. That Taru was standing by himself and the wyrm open his mouth for a Taru lunch. As for the Dryadic Abjuration: Body, I don't think it's rarer than Kirin's Osode. From my experiences with HNMs (Kirin, Fafnir, Nidhogg, Aspido, the 4 Gods in Ru'Aun, etc.), what they drop isWhat Kirin drops is completely random. I've fought them all several times and sometimes you'll get one item each time you kill them and then sometimes you won't see that item again for weeks.

To neighbortaru & Dowg: Yeah he is really awesome. These dragons took many lives over the weekend across all servers. I like how these dragons (wyrms) actually fly. That's the problem I had with Nidhogg/Fafnir. You had these huge beasts that were true dragons (not wyverns) but they didn't fly. The flying aspect of it is really cool because they breathe on you. Touchdown (their ability when they land) causes massive AOE damage. You can see the Touchdown in the 12th image (the one where we have ice effects surrounding me).

Jorm is that blue color you see in most of the pictures. The color change is the effect of our spells hitting it. If any of you are around any black mages next time, pay attention to when they cast elemental magic (especially Fire). Usually the mob changes colors temporarily because of that spell. So the brown color was... well I dont' know what spell that was. I think maybe Paralyze? The red was from us mages casting Fire IV and the like.

I haven't looked at the other threads of the dragons, but I hope my pictures show something they don't. I know a lot of people have good computers now, so my "high-resolution" screenshots aren't so special anymore.
