There were 3 uncursed body armors in the pics I posted, I'm assuming you mean the one the Mithra had on.

I want to say what she had on was the Dalmatica, but I can't be for sure because I thought the Dalmatica was green (I may be thinking of the Zenith pieces). Anyway, its obviously rare, so this is one of the few times I've seen people wear these.

It should be obviously why I don't have it yet! It can take months to be able to get those pieces (you have to not only catch the Super HNM but kill him and then win the lot in your alliance). The process takes *forever* because you won't be the only job that needs that item. The same for the Dynamis pieces. That's why you rarely see any of the level 75s have these armors except 1 or 2 pieces. The Mithra you see there almost has the whole set, so obviously she's done it for a while. The PLD & THF only have the body piece. I think it will be a LONG time before I even get to touch any of these pieces.

As for the stats, they aren't too great alone (like the JSE/AF/RSE equipment). It gets much more badass when you get the whole set. For each of the cursed body pieces I'm about to list, there is also a High Quality version, but these can cost several millions. All cursed armor is rare/EX, which is why you don't see them at the AH. Here's the details on each normal cursed armor and how to make it.

        • I have an additional request. This time it's not for a screenshot though. All (yes, all) of my friends say that Elvaan is one of the worst races for BLM. I would just like you to defende yourself, so I can direct them here, or just tell them what you said.

          ... Edited.

          • hi faluzure, thanks for all your work. these screenshots are a great help for people like me, who had to quit the game b/c of r/l responsibilities, but still have interest in what happens in the story

            • Hmm, Faluzure, care to take a stab at what the "Slow+13%" means? That mean the spell Slow will be 13% better? (Which makes no sense because a RDM, BLM, or WHM can't wear it...)

                • To Seeker_Onos: Have you tried running your Windows in Japanese mode (I mean entirely in Japanese, menus, etc.) That often works for overseas games despite only installing IME.

To onewei79: No problem man. I'm glad you're enjoy these screenshots as much as I enjoy taking the pics. Sorry about having to quit FFXI. I've been in your position before and had to quit a few games in the past. Its good that you see that real life responsibilities are more important than games. Some people can't and its ruined many people's lives because of it.

To BlueFire: Slow+13% actually slows your attacks by 13%. (There are items that do Haste+X%, which actually speed up your attacks). It's a -ability on the armor. Most of the cursed armor sets have some negative effect to balances the positive effects. I believe its fair, because after all, look at the bonus stat: +13 STR / +16 HP / +10 Accuracy. Those are some hellabig bonuses if you ask me.

To Ka1'E1: Haha you bastard. You know what he meant! :spin:

To Cirdane: This is going to be long, so please bear with me. If you don't care about the Elvaan BLM idea, then you can skip it. First off, I believe you mean Elvaan. There is no such thing as a "worst race" for a particular job. Any race can be *any* of the given jobs in FFXI successfully. However, I will agree that at certain times, one race will have more advantages than another in certain situations... Let me elaborate.

I'll argue this from a standpoint of Elvaan vs Tarutaru because Tarus are regarded as the "best race for mages." Personally, this is totally not true. It is well know that Elvaans have much lower mana reserves and definitely lower INT than a Taru. That itself is the main basis on why people argue against non-Taru mages. My success as an Elvaan BLM has been very good. I have many Taru playing friends who play as BLM and I am just as successful as they are. Actually even more successful, but that can be due to several factors (especially with the fact that I can speak Japanese). But I can get into JP parties no problem, as having a BLM is better than having no BLM>

First we'll look at the Mana situation. I will acknowledge the fact that our mana reserves suck. Tarus will always be able to nuke many more times than we can. So over the course of a battle at lower levels, they can usually go through more mobs per second than Elvaans. However, there is a remedy for this. Juices. Yeah, these can be expensive but its the only way to try to tilt the scale in our favor. Those of you that took up crafting early can easily afford these. As for the drinks, avoid Orange juice. They aren't worth the money, avoid these at all costs. 1 stack of Saruta Oranges costs 700. You can only make 3 juices with these (4 oranges + 1 water crystal). They only last 1 minute. 200+ gil for 1 bottle stinks. Skip these and go for at least apple juice or Tomato (or even Pineapple). Pineapples juices go for 200-250 per bottle on my server and last 3 minutes. Obviously its well worth the money. You can use pineapple juices up until level 50 or 60.

As for the INT, its a little more harder to fix you can only fix this by either INT+ equipment, which can be expensive. Or you can use pies. Pies can be pricey, but they are a good way for a several INT boost (as well as MP boost). At lower levels, apple pies are fine. They are I believe, (I haven't eaten anything but Melon Pie +1 for a long time) about 150 gil a piece? They last 20 minutes too and give you a nice MP/INT boost. As I said before, if you took crafting up early, you can afford these.

Finally, the damage standpoint is based on INT & Elemental skill. On average (this includes resistances & difference between elemental skill/INT stats), Tarus will do 75-100 more damage than Elvaans (that is at level 75). In worst case scenario for our favor, we can bust out with 100 more damage than them. In worst case scenario in their favor, they can even jump to near 200 damage above mine (but this is extremely rare). Note this is at level 75. At this level, mobs already have over 3000+ HP, so 50-100 damage is nothing. At lower levels, the ratio stays the same. Last night (I'm playing RDM right now), a level 14 Elvaan BLM was doing roughly 10-30 damage less than his Taru counterparts at the same level.

So, the only thing that really matters is obviously the INT & mana. You can't ever get near a Taru's level for INT or mana, but food definitely helps you as well as equipment. One good thing that I've noticed though, is that Tarus die relatively easy. Every now and then, your Taru BLM (or WHM) will get hate cuz of the nuking(healing). I have seen Tarus die or even get near death from a single hit from an IT mob. On the other hand, Elvaans can take 2 or more hits and still be ok. This is probably the only major benefit of being Elvaan over a Taru. I've had plenty of close calls and I praise myself for being an Elvaan. The HP difference also helps in soloing. Tarus are good, but they have their faults. But there is no such thing as a bad race for a BLM or any other mage class.

Galkas would be fine given they were loaded full with MP+ items. Galkas actually have MORE INT than Elvaans do on every level from 1-75. This puts them ahead so they can instead concentrate on MP+. So while the Elvaan usually balances out INT+/MP+ items (specifically in rings), Galkas can mostly skip that one or 2 INT+ items and just max out on MP+ items. So with that said, all the Galka would have to do would be to invest in tons of drinks and possibly the MP+ rings (like Astral or even Serket). The spread between the Galka & Elvaan's MP starts off at a -6MP difference and spreads up slowly. By the time they hit around mid 50s, the spread is about -80. But given the fact that the Galka can invest in either Astral/Serket/Electrum rings should balance it out well. Galkas already have loads of HP so the loss would be unnoticeable.

So again, there is no such thing as a bad race for any job, even Galka to BLM. The only difference is Galkas will have to spend more money to "even themselves out".

Ah, interesting. I run the US version of Win2K with the standard US keyboard. I do have the IME installed (defaulted to run with Japanese as the first language, regional settings and the like set up in Japanese. But I still see my menus and system environment in English - the only time I'm looking at Japanese menus is when I'm confiuring the IME)

Do I need to buy and run the Japanese version of the OS, or is it possible to run US version Win2K in an all-Japanese mode?

How did you set yours up?

I apologize for taking up your (and other's) time with this bit of a side track, but I would be eternally grateful to whoever can show me a way to type in Japanese using the NA install.

Japanese input + English menus = True FFXI joy for me.
