Ughh that is just mean, and that Mithra on the right doesn't look constipated, she is just depressed. >_< And I believe that she was talking about the one on the left.

No, Doujinshi are fan mangas drawn by other artists. Some of them have adult content, but not all of them. This one does not.

No, Doujin-shi are publications by a group of friends, usually mangas, (although, professionals also do them, and they don't have to be manga) and are amateurly published. Doujin is the word for a literary group or coterie, and shi can mean a document or magazine.

That is to say, instead of like Marvel publishing them, you'd go to Kinkos and have them make you 2,000 copies of your superhero comic and sell them on your website. While Kinkos isn't the best example of a store that would do such an on demand print job, it's hard to explain because Japan has a different industry over there, and people printing their own comics isn't that unusual.

While the majority of the ones we get in the states are fan comics, they actually make up a very small group of them. They're also rumoured to be universally hentai, which is also not true.

There's a very large expo in Tokyo called Comitia (which is short for Comic Market or something like that) held twice a year. Tens of thousands of doujinshi artists show up, with lots more showing up to gawk and to buy. :D

There are a couple of publishers in Japan that really deal in doujinshi manga, such as http://www.toranoana.co.jp/, http://www.melonbooks.co.jp/, and http://www.foxcomic.com/.

The current trend in Doujinshi is to offer them online, as downloadable PDFs or zips. DLSite, Dijipare, and a few others are like that.

Team Shuffle has a good FAQ on the matter, but, his art is not for everyone. He's a furry, and draws lots of stuff like Orc girls or Cat Girls or whatever. So, check out the faq part there but I wouldn't go back up to the main page unless you know what you're doing. =)

My favorite CG artist and Doujinshi artist is Takahiro Awatake, who's work can be found here. His stuff is a bit perverse, but I love how he draws.

1. Doujins are 9 times out of 10, mangas. Sorry for not going into huge detail just to relay a small minority of something to someone who probably doesn't even care.

2. So someone who knows nothing about a series, is going to make a Doujin of it? Kind of hard to make a doujin on something you know nothing about.
