  • Daisychain macros? Possible?

It may apply to ppl on all platforms, but let's say you have a macro book called Book1.

I have rougly 10 pages of macros I can switch between. For a given page of macros, can I link them together? ie: Gear-swapping, how can I press one macro and have it invoke another to complete my gear swapping?

    Re: Daisychain macros? Possible?

I don't think this is possible, as it would lead to botting. (when I first started the game, I asked my ls leader about how to do this and his reply is: you can't do that, it's called botting)

I think the next best thing (excluding extended macros from 3rd party apps) is to put a line in a macro to switch to another book. I do something like this:

    Macro book 1, Alt-0:
    /equip item1
    /equip item2
    /equip item3
    /equip item4
    /equip item5
    /macro book 2 *

    Macro book 2, Alt-0:
    /equip item6
    /equip item7
    /equip item8
    /equip item9
    /equip item10
    /macro book 1 *

In this way, I can swap 10 pieces of gear by pressing the same key combination (Alt-0) twice. Of course, you could also do a 3rd macro if you actually need to swap 15 pieces of gear. Beware of 'macro lag' and ending up on the wrong macro book (or palette).

*note that the syntax is probably not correct, since I'm typing from memory, but the concept is valid

I don't personally see anything wrong with using some 3rd party apps as long as you aren't deriving gameplay benefits above and beyond what the base game software allows, and to be honest macro-chaining for gear swapping is relatively innocuous, but the potential for abuse is extremely high.

If I remember correctly, there IS a way to jump from one macro book to another w/o the use of said program...........need to go back and look at my macros to remember the syntax though >.<

He's looking for a way to do it automatically. So no, there isn't. At most he can use other macros to automatically change his current set or book. That solution works, but it sure isn't a pretty solution.

If you could daisychain them, then you could run an infinite loop, and that's the whole point behind what SE is trying to avoid. Loops would be enough for a primitive bot, add conditionals and it's not so primitive, add movement and you could reasonably just "fight till you drop" (or don't) and farm a zone on autopilot...

                Re: Daisychain macros? Possible?

Of course, the obvious solution is to give us longer macros so there weren't a need to use more than 1 macro to get your gear swapping done, but that hasn't happened and at this point I doubt it ever will.

A bit off topic, but how would the "moderator hat" tilt on SpellCast? And, the reasoning?

(The way I look it, SpellCast gives the user the ability to generate precisely timed, command sequences (i.e. macros++) on the fly, per pre-determined conditions or rules. Also, it can do perform actions no build in command can do, like canceling Utsusemi's shadow image.)

leaving no trace in the water.

I'm not really sure we have an "official" stance as far as the staff here goes, but SpellCast is relatively innocuous. Nonetheless, it's still a violation of the terms of service.

Really the only relatively safe topic of discussion here regarding things like Windower is to do what its primary function is - to run the software in a window so you can do other non-FFXI related things on your PC.

I see what you mean, but it still doesnt really bug me the way I have mine set, I mean hell, makes my BLU macros a lot easier to deal with, what with all the gear swaps and stuff.

SpellCast works with the Windower. Since linking and promoting the use of Windower and its components isn't allowed, SpellCast would fall under this condition. If it violates the TOS, then its not allowed.

I appreciate all of the replies, and I most appreciate no-one getting totally offended by the question. This isn't something for fishing/synthesis so please don't think that. I'd just like to be able to invoke a couple macros for gear changes and whatnot.

If Truece is right, I can say '/macro Book 2 *' and call another book only, not a specific macro. I can see why for reasons said above. Thanks all!

I think you can also switch to a different set in the same book.

This is something that I've read before that *may* be helpful.

Scholar Macro Guide - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

I thought it was pretty handy in understanding switching between books for your specific job and using multiple sets to switch to and from. You may already know this if so then umm sorry I got nothing else legally to use.
