  • Simple question about Chains of Promathia expansion activation

Just a hypothetical question. If I have FF XI core game installed, and I were to pick up a used copy of Chains of Promathia expansion with a used key from my local pawn shop, would it activate? Or is it like world of warcraft where once you activate the expansion then that key gets tied to the account? thx for any help on this matter

    Simple Answer: No.

Doesn't work like that, you need a new copy of the expansion or Vana'diel Collection 2008.

No ... not you... the dude who pawned it... I mean how much $$$ did he really get for pawning an expansion of a game that is $15 now? Proly part of some collection of crap someone brought in.

I've seen FFXI expansions in used games stores. I don't have the heart to tell them they just bought something that nobody will ever buy.

You can expect the code will be used, but you can buy a content ID online for at least Zilart/CoP/ToAU. I have heard that they don't sell separate codes for WotG, but that could have been a while ago. Just remember that the codes will cost you more than getting VC08 at full retail.

You should be able to use codes from any version, though. You could get that closeout XBOX 360 version missing WotG, or a PC version. If you get a collection with a single code, you should be able to enter it to register all its expansions.

Except for grandmothers that don't know any better and moms that act like video games are still this alien sort of concept. I've had to stop a couple before.

Its just some businesses are completely oblivious to the idea that games like FFXI and PSU can't be used again once the key codes are consumed. I've known managers that tell their employees to not accept these games as used, but they never listen.

Just remembered I sold my Phantasy Star Online GameCube version to gamestop. I dont think they even asked me if the code worked. I never got around to playing it online with my uber dial-up I had back then.

I'm pretty sure I still own my PSO for Dreamcast though.
