  • Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

So you've decided to change your payment information. Perhaps you ran out of funds last month, or your card expired. So you go into Service and Support, input all of your information, double check it, and hit submit, only for an error message to pop up saying:

(When I get home tonight I will take a screenshot of the EXACT error message, though this one is close.)

Now you know your information is correct. And you know there's plenty of funds on the card. What could it be?

Please take a minute to check with PlayOnline. They do regular server maintenance during which time you can not update your payment information. You will have to wait until the server maintenance is complete. You may have noticed that white page that pops up after you hit "Play," most likely it is informing you of registration server maintenance.

    Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

Unfortunately, maintenance doesn't account for the error most of us have been describing in the other thread, although I'm sure this will help people who are trying to subscribe during maintenance hours.

I, and many others apparently, have been getting the USC-60257 error (incidentally, I know you said your screenshot isn't one of the exact error), and after finally speaking with a CSR yesterday, I was only told to keep trying back every 30 minutes since the servers are inundated with people trying to purchase security tokens/purchase the new expansion, although I'm a bit incredulous about this excuse.

I've been unable to to make a regristration attempt today, but after reading the latest posts over at Killing Ifrit regarding the issue, it seems that the server congestion is still interfering with the payment input facet of the regristration process, unfortunately. Also, there is a discussion pertaining to this issue over at GameFAQs as well.

I'm just glad that I decided not to retrieve my old character, or I'd be very upset right now since it looks as if SE won't be extending the Return to Vana'diel Campaign.

    EDIT:

Also, I've been contending with this problem for SIX days now, and some people claim that the issue emerged as early as the 14th, which is ridiculous. Surely there must be some way that SE can allow us to register our accounts until the backlog of traffic has at last subsided, even if we have to register by phone. But as of right now, they haven't even acknowledged the fact that the issue exists on their website -- you have to call them to get this information. However, as I stated before, they (the CSRs) said this is something that cannot be resolved until the influx of players clogging the servers at last dies down, and their only advice is to "keep trying every 30-35 minutes."

That advice is a bit counterproductive, isn't it? A definite catch-22, heh.

      Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

As of today, SE has at last acknowledged the error and has issued an official statement on their website, which you can view below (note that the announcement is also viewable via the news section on the POL viewer):

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our payment processor. If you are experiencing a UCS 60257 error when trying to register a payment method, please refrain from further attempts until a resolution to this issue has been announced. The issue is currently being addressed and new updates will follow as soon as additional information becomes available.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
(This is the first I've heard of the announcement even though the article is dated the 18th.The POL announcement was definitely not issued until today, as I would have seen it since I've regularly been checking for updates.)

        Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

Is anyone else having issues with this still? I've been unable to register a new playonline ID all day today (and getting the same error: UCS 60257).

        So disappointed!

As of 5/21/08 at 11:11 pm EST, I still can't create my account...

Wish I'd have looked into this before I decided to buy the game...

            Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

You can download the trial and get in, if you want to try it out at least (no credit card required for the trial).

Steps to get around the account creation problem temporarily:
            - Go to <link>https://secure.playonline.com/freetrialus/top.html</link>
            - Click on the Send Registration button and fill out your email addy
            - If you've already bought and installed the game, you can use that install to use the trial registration code (no need to download the trial software).
            - Once that code arrives in your email, load up PlayOnline and follow the registration prompts. Be sure to use the reg code you got in your email, not ANY of the ones you got with your purchased product.
            - If you run into any errors surrounding your handle registration, it could be the name filter thinking your name is offensive, so try something completely different if this happens.

            You won't be able to upgrade your account, because if you try, it will still bomb out at the credit card part. I've been hearing a rumor that FFXI is working for people who have expired credit cards attached to their profile... which means their registration system might be seriously borked. -_-;

But at least you can see if you like it. The trial is basically the full game, minus the expansions.

PS: I don't have a high enough post count to post links apparently... so copy and paste the link in the first step.

                Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. Never before has a sign up for a game been this frustrating for me, so I can relate. And it's a fun game, too. I've really been enjoying the trial thus far.

I might even try registering two new free email accounts to try and get codes, depending on how badly you want to play. Once you get everything setup, the patching takes about 2-5 hours depending on your connection speed.

                    Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

I used to be a WoW player, and it was fun for awhile, but I burned out on it for many reasons. I'd always wanted to try FFXI, but always had an excuse not to.

I finally did away with the excuses, only to find out I can't register. Some people are telling me it's a sign not to play, but I don't know. We're probably thinking along the same lines, being a little nervous about signing up -- what if we want to cancel? Is the reg server not going to let us cancel, and keep charging us for play time?

I just wish SE would post something official about the problems happening right now. But apparently it's normal for players to be in a sort of vaccuum when it comes to info from the devs. I suspect this problem is so large scale, that they've decided not to say anything in public until the worst of the issues have been fixed.

I mean, people with expired cc's are able to play right now, but new paying accounts can't register? Wow... :X

                        Re: Card/Registration Error? Read Me!

Yeah, I beta tested Horizons, and while it had some cool concepts, they never did quite grasp the whole server stability issue (amongst other things). :D

I'm having the same problem actually. I've been looking for a good game I can play with my other half since last year, but nothing is really delivering. Even tried Guild Wars in a moment of weakness (lol) and decided that wasn't right for us either -- we're not really into pvp.

Where did all the good 2-player co-op games go?!

Yeah, I tried guild wars as well, wasn't a fan at all, even went back a couple times to see if things changed, they didn't...

Should take this to PM and let the mods delete the posts that were way off topic...

According to Ifrit, they fixed it, about a month ago or so, but it's still not working for me

I think it was fixed for about a day... around April 23rd, and then after that, more complaints that new accounts couldn't register. Since then, I've not heard anything else about it. I guess if they don't fix it soon, I'll likely just go find something else to play, and maybe check back at a later date.
