  • windows installer 1155 error: please help

I am attempting to install the expansions to my japanese version of FFXI and I am unable to even begin installation because of what appears to be a windows installer 1155 error. Some back story that may be able to assist with trouble shooting my error:

2 weeks ago purchased a 2008 (North American) Vana'Diel Collections, created new account, installed game + all expansions fine. My account is flagged for all expansions.

Earlier this week successfully installed Japanese playonline viewer and original Final Fantasy XI. I am able to log in to my account that was created 2 weeks ago and play, however I am not able to travel to any of the expansion areas because I do not have the files for them. The error that pops up is not written in japanese nor english but rather some kind of gibberish and it seems to be asking for a .msi file that is missing, although I am not positive.

The point of coming back and playing the game was so I could play the game in japanese, so reverting back to the NA version isn't an option.

Has anyone encountered this error before or maybe know how it can be fixed?

Also one side question regarding the japanese version of FFXI. Does anyone happen to know how I can toggle the writing style in game? I remember doing this in the past, but it has completely escaped me how to do this. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Re: windows installer 1155 error: please help

Wings of the Goddess broke the ability to share a single installed folder between regions of POL Viewer, specifically sharing Japanese and non-Japanese installs. You actually need an install disc for every Japanese FFXI expansion to fix it. That means you either buy, borrow, or torrent one. I've also even then not been able to have a working Japanese install and a seperate working NA install at the same time in completely different folders, so it seems there is a registry conflict there. My solution was to have a dual OS install, on two seperate partitions, and install one region of the game on each. That means I have to reboot the computer to use the other region's version. ONly the last version to install on the same OS would work, while the previous install would say the FFXI directory was missing or corrupt.

Modifier key combinations toggle text mode input. I remember Alt-` being one. You can configure them in your IME preferences.

Thank you very much for your reply, I greatly appreciate it. I do have a couple follow up questions if you or anyone else doesn't mind answering them either.

So to better explain my situation, I don't need nor care to have a North American version of FFXI on my computer. I plan on using my PS3 for any (if any) North American version needs, so would I be best off completely uninstalling any trace of the North American version (play online included) or should I completely uninstall any trace of FFXI I have and then start an installation of the Japanese version only?

Regarding the installation of Vana'Diel collections 2008, if I have no versions of FFXI on my computer at all, will I still experience issues on my installation that were described in your post?

In regards to IME, I am not sure I follow you on it. I can toggle between English and Japanese with (ALT + SHIFT) outside of FFXI but in game I can't seem to switch out of english, even if I am using japanese imput with IME.
